For convenience I want to transfer about 25 hours of Mini-DV footage to a 500 GB external harddrive & edit it on a laptop at work using the simple Movie Maker editing program (can't put a lot of thought in the creative process at work and want to splice together a quickie) & then hook the external harddrive up to my PC at the house and fine tune the footage using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 Will I lose resolution? Are there any "cons" I should be aware of before I start this endeavor? I appreciate your suggestions & advice.

Just curious, why are you editing this at work? I mean if you absolutely have to, then go ahead, but personally I think it would save you a lot more time to just edit it at home. Movie maker files are incompatible with premiere pro (yes I know, Duh). The only other way you could put your edited footage into premiere pro would be to export as a high quality WMV file (in which you would still lose quality), or export to tape or hard drive as a DV-AVI file, (which would take an extremely long time to render, not to metion the file would be extremely gi-normous.) Also, when you got home and started working on the file (lets say you used DV-AVI), and you found that you accidentally cut off Sally's big entrance at the end of the play, you wouldn't be able to just retrieve it by "untrimming" the clip like you could if it were just a editing file you were working on, instead of a video file. So then, to fix it, you would have to reimport all your footage, and so forth. So basically what I'm saying is, since your going to be making changes at home anyways, then dont edit at work, because it will just cause you more trouble. But if you plan on making a final print from your edit at work, then forget what I said. Hope this helps!
