i know what you mean. i've lived in every boro but staten island and i've experienced the same thing. it's the same with apartments. i live in the bronx at the moment and see 3 and 4 family homes going up practically every week. you go in and the master bedroom won't fit more than a full sized bed and some of them don't een have closets in them. i feel this way, if people let the relaters know they need more space for the money they are being asked to pay then the contractors couldn't get away with this crap. the houses are not only getting smaller but the materials they use to build or patch them up with are crap as well. it was on the news not too long ago how developers where getting away with shoddy work and the houses were falling apart. one guy said he was told be a developer that he would fix what ever was broken as long as he didn't sue or speak with the news. he did it anyway (hooray for him). it's all about the benjamins. realters don't care about consumers, it's about landlords and sellers. it's disgusting. and they only get away with it because some people are so desperate or don't know any better. if people spoke up they couldn't get away with it. you may get more for your money in jersey or somewhere upstate. it's a little far but you'll find more of what you want and get a tax break for commuting.

well, a lot of the recent construction is due to the gentrification of lower income areas of NYC. Manhattan is overcrowded, and people, mainly white people, need places to live. So, the only resolve is to build up areas like the South Bronx and Brooklyn. there has also been an increase in police presence in these areas so as to eradicate the remaining drug activity before upper middle-class people start to move in.

Space is limited and there are more and more people to house. Not to mention that real estate is out of control. The closer you get to the city the more you will pay for smaller space. I'm sure its the same in any large city.

Dude you are in N.Y.C houses are small and expensive. The only big apartments or houses are in the suburbs. If you don't like it move but, you will not have the same fun anywhere else the way we do in ny.
