im getting my braces off very shortly, and was wondering about the
pain level.
1-10?
and also
how come some orthodonists take off the braces first then take the impressions, and come the others take impressions first.
and a final question:
do reatiners make you gag?

1)....pain isn't bad at all. A 3 maybe...less
2)....I guess its just a preference for the dentist on the impressions. Mine did it before the removal.
3) yes, I hated my retainer...so I didn't wear it.....now my teeth have started moving...now I regret not wearing them but now too late...the retainers dont' fit.

The pain level is about a three. It's pressure, but it doesn't hurt. You know when the orthdonist would change the wires? It's not as bad as that.
Most of the orthodonists I know take impressions before AND after. To get your retainer to fit, you need to have a new impression taken.
Your retainers won't make you gag, but it will hurt. Be sure to wear them though! I had braces for 3 years, didn't wear a retainer, and now I have ugly teeth.

This is my second time having braces. when they are taken off the pain level is about a 2-3. its more annoying than anything.
I have been to two different orthodontists, the first one took the impression while my braces were on. They did it so that by the time i came in again to get the braces off. the impression would all ready be ready. the other one took it after so that it would easier for him to work with the impression
and no they don't make you gag, but they do make you drool a hole lot!!

It doesnt hurt, just the pression and the pulling of the braces which is bothering, but nothing else. It's like a 3 or 4, depending on how sensitive you are to pain and bothering stuff.
My orthodoncist took the impression after, to know what measure had to have the retainers, and at first they make you gag because you are getting use to them but after a couple of weeks wearing them (or less) you wont gag at all.
Trust me, neither of this will cause you a problem, on the contrary, you'll feel free!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!

I can't remember much pain at all: 3. But that's only if you wear your retainers the complete amount of time you're supposed to. They don't make ME gag, (I had 2) don't know about you, but as far as the doctors and the impressions, don't know. I would trust a doctor to know what he's doing, though, and since different doctors vary, it probably is just a matter of the doctor's opinion and doesn't make that much difference. The whole thing is no big deal. Don't sweat it. Just enjoy the way your teeth feel slimy for a couple of days. Its cool.

I had braces--NO pain taking them off:) As far as the impressions, after they took the braces off they took impressions for the retainer--sometimes they take impressions BEFORE so they can compare your teeth when you are done (I had impressions taken before and after). The retainer did not make me gag--just don't try eating with it in. I had to wear it 24 hours for a while (you can take it off to eat) then after a while just at night. It's all worth it for those perfect teeth!!

it doesn't hurt (at least mine didn't)... you may feel a little bit of a tug on you teeth when the are taking the bracket off, but no real pain... so i would say a 1
your teeth will feel slimey after they come off...
i have never heard of a dentist taking the impression before thaking off the braces...
no retainers don't make you gag... i mean they don't go far enough back in your mouth to hit your gag reflex... they just sit against the roof of your mouth...

When i got my braces off it didnt hurt so id rate it a 1-2 maybe a 3 but no higher. also i never had a retainer but the inpressions are for the retainer.

pain level on removal, about a 2. its more uncomfortable than painful. orthos do impressions based on their preference, there really is no rhyme nor reason for the order in which they do them. and retainers shouldnt make you gag unless you are trying to swallow them. good luck, and congratulations!

i don't know about the 2nd question, but about retainers, no. i have retainers, and after about 1 day, you don't even realize your wearing it!!!
congratulations on getting ur braces off!! i know what it's like to hate braces :}
