You're right...in UK it's perfectly legal to have a sexual relationship with a 16 yr old.
Strange isn't it because an older woman can date a younger guy & a younger woman can date an older guy...no problem there, but when I was 19 I have to admit dating a 16 yr old would have been an absolute no-no for some reason. Not because of legalities because there aren't any but simply because he would have seemed far too immature for me.
That's rich coming from someone who's now 51 & been married to my husband for 5 yrs, been together for 7. He's 27
I'm very young for my age & look it while my husband's quite mature for his....
Age makes no difference to 2 people that are deeply in love & have lots in common & can keep up with each other of course. But heck! that's only applicable if you're thinking of settling down with someone which is hardly the case here & even if it were what's 3 years?
If your friend likes this guy that much then quite honestly what the hell doe's it have to do with anyone else?
I'd tell her to go ahead. Hey! we spend our bloody lives wondering if what we're gonna do bothers other people. The very ones that would be bothered would do what they wanted despite what you or I thought about it....
Tell her to go for it. Why not????
She's not doing anything illegal afterall....

3 years is nothing - I fancy a guy at the moment who's 2 years younger than me (17) and we get on great! I've also had a relationship for 2 years with someone who's 11 years older than me and we're still friends although not an item anymore and my mum and dad think he's really nice. If it's a good friendship/relationship then age doesn't matter at all because you don't notice it. I think she should go for it!

" it's just a number isn't it the person that counts?" quoted by yourself,
i would believe that a true statement age should not matter i am married at 23 years old to my 29 year old partner that is a six year differance to thier mere three years and if you truly would like a larger age gap my father was 22 years older than my mother, my dad being 53 when i was born has taught me that love is something that age nor beauty can comprehend alone.

People in that relationship are not legal. Age doesn't matter when everyone is over 18, but until then it matters a great deal.

As long as they are both at the age of consent ( which you stated the UK considers 16 legal) They should go for it!

He's under the age of consent and in many states, the law prohibits any sexual relationships. My advice to your friend is that he is NOT perfect because he is only 16. Women mature faster, so on a maturity scale, this boy is VASTLY more immature than your friend.

This is not a big age gap, i really would not be worrying about this.
If your friend really wants to be with this guy then i think you should respect her decision and be there for her in case it doesn't work out.
You cant help who you fall for, and love should not have an age limit on it as long as it is legal and consensual.

That's fine...ask her to check the legal ramifications of this action. I guess the legal age for dating is 18. I feel she should wait for another 2 years before going out with him and stay out of jail...he is a minor.

I was 19 when i met my now husband of 8 yrs and he was 17, I don't see anything wrong with it as long as both parties r over the age of consent.
