That we make our own purposes.

This is NOT my answer but i love this source.

Mythologist Joseph Campbell, in his famous The Power of Myth interviews with Bill Moyers, answered the question in the following way:

People say what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think what we're seeking is an experience of being alive so that the life experiences that we have on the purely physical plane will have resonances within, that are those of our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive..

The most common purpose is to survive and pass our genes on to our offspring. Beyond that we create our own purposes and reasons for living and behaving the way we do.

There is no common purpose, if by that you mean behavior that we all should engage in for each other's benefits. It's true that we all (well, most of us) obey laws, for example, but they exist as much for our benefit as for others'.
We exist simply because life has developed at random on this planet in this galaxy in this universe. We all seek to maximize our pleasure and minimize pain (unless, of course, our pleasure IS pain!). Having sex, eating good food, drinking good beer and wine... that's about as much of a 'purpose' as we have.

I believe the common purpose for us living on earth is for our souls to grow and learn. We do it over and over until we get it right. What is right you say? I belive God or out life force wants us to be more like him, pure and holy. Then and only then can we do terrific work for the future of all souls.
Yes, I believe in reincarnation and I am a protestant. I believe God made out souls eternal and we live as many lives as we choose interacting with the same souls in our circle. Each life we have obstacles to overcome and fear or pain to work through. This life for me was to overcome a bad childhood and learn how to raise two fine young men. Then in my later life to learn all I can about spirituality and pass the work on to others.
All I can tell you is I have had amazing things happen to me in the last 2 years. So amazing it can hardly be told. I lead a simple life yet have learned some astonishing stuff. I found all you have to do is open your heart and mind to the unexpected. If you would have asked me if I believed in many lives two years ago I would have said "maybe" but now I say "for certain". I have been conected to a brother who passed away, met several of my spirit guides, had thing happen that I was told they would happen in the tibeten cards, and have had premonitions and vivid dreams that have come to pass. Yes, I saw the death of my step mother-in-law and I saw her dancing in the clouds with a smile on her face. I saw this two weeks before she was diagnosed with a rare brain disease and died in two days. I have prevented bad outcomes by seeing things in my dreams.
Why? I believe once you open your life to the unknown and delve into the spiritual world you will learn many wonderous things. I am in my 50's and have finally begun to live. My whole life before was on hold: waiting for the right time to grow, to raist the kids, to not have to work again, to make smart money choices etc. I was not living in the moment but now I can and do.

You know man actually has tried so hard to find a meaning for life in science, religious, art, philosophy and … but I guess life is just a gift which has granted to us accidentally, and we can take this chance to enjoy our lives, to find love, to help humanity and others, or we can suffer, and live our lives in the vain. Yeah it is a chance which is passing by, and it is totally up to us to use it or lose it in a glimpse of an eye.

No common purpose. We all find our own purposes.

To ascend the steps of experience, to find the right way, to work on the negative aspects of yourselves and eventually reach a higher level. Then the journey continues.
