I like the grill best, wait until the coals are all white and spread them out and throw it on. Skillet I use an Iron Skillet with high heat, wait until the skillet is HOT. May add just a small amount of oil to keep from sticking and slide around some at first. Time depends on thickness. They say about 5 minutes each side for medium per inch. I like a 3/4 inch cut and cook for 4-5 minutes each side and it be pink no blood. On the Grill you may need 5-7 minutes for medium. This actually an experience thing and if it your first time watch your time, then the next time you know if you need more/less time to cook. If, it a Fillet Mignon with a Bacon wrap I take the time to roll on the side some to make the Bacon good in the skillet, on the grill I let it do best it can. This about the best I can tell you. Good Luck.

If it's your first time, I'd avoid the grill. Go for the skillet. Not sure how long on each side, but be sure you ONLY FLIP ONCE and let the steak rest for 5 minutes after cooking so the juices won't run out when you cut into it.

Take a pan put about two table spoons of oil in it. Let it get real hot. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Them throw the fillets in - You are just browning the outside and making the seasoning stronger.
two to three minutes on each side - then take it - put it into a baking dish/ cookie pan/etc
and put it in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes.
Let the meat sit for 5 inutes before cutting into it.

Fillet is great with just salt and pepper or season salt. If you want to be a little more creative take soy sauce(1/4 cup), garlic (3 cloves -chop it up), ginger (aboout the size of your thumb peel it and chop it up, lemon juice(2ybs), sugar(1/4 cup) and serano peppers (1 cut ope and take the seeds out discrad - then chop up the remaining)

This is has a really nice aroma and the sugar will make the outside of the fillet crispy)

BUT remember let the meat sit for 5 minutes! It lets the juices inside coagulate (thicken- so they just don't poor out when you cut into it - thats letting the juice out)
