We need to purchase a minivan. Taking into consideration price, reliablility, safety, etc....new or used, what are some of your suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only mini van to get good ratings across the board for safety was the Hyundai/Kia Mini vans.

When purchased NEW, they come with a 10 year, 100K mile warranty, and are priced under $20K.

Fist of all, contrary to popular belief, stay away from the Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth mini vans. Awesome on creature comforts, but terrible on mechanical reliability. Especially the transmissions. Every person I know who has one, can't wait to trade it or would never buy one again.

If I were in the market for a minivan, Honda and Toyota would be my first and last considerations.

If I didn't have that kind of money, I'd go with a Ford minivan. Ford's are based on the Taurus, and there aer enough of those around that just about every mechanic is familiar with them.

All things considered, I'd go with a Honda.

If you don't want to depend solely on my opinion, research minivans at www.edmunds.com. They have a section that deals with minivans in particular.

Hope this info helps.

My suggestion would be to go to Consumer Reports. They're one of the only non-biased sources of information out there. you won't pick up the book, find a good rating for a Dodge and then see a Dodge advertisement on the next page, you know what I mean?

That being said, I think you can sign up for as little as $4 online, or you could go and look for their book in a library or bookstore. They rate things like price, reliability, performance, etc.

There are also a lot of car magazines out there, many of whom do a once-a-year best of contest, but like I said, they may not be 100% un-biased.

I believe at this time, the Honda Odessey is on the top of the list.

attempt a stay clean of Caravan. those have super useful properties interior like Stow & pass , DVD displays etc. 2nd selection may be Mazda 5. Its getting good comments. So does Kia Sedona. for my area i'm somewhat leery of the minivans for 2 motives. a million. they seem to be a discomfort to scrub & you have a tendency to pile all style of stuff through fact it has fairly some storage. at the same time that makes suitable breeding floor for germs. 2. they are tremendously dorky soccer Mommish. Me i might choose for those Wagons obtainable or Crossover SUVs.

We owned a 1991 Plymouth and it lasted, with no problems I might add up to 2005. (15 years). I still believe that Chryslers and Dodges are great vehicles. (and Plymouths too) (Plymouth and Dodge are divisions of Chrysler)

Now we have a 2004 Ford Freestar, and It hasen't given us a problem yet in the past (almost) 3 years

Good Luck!

91-95 Dodge Grand Caravan / Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.3 Liter motor. They come standard with drivers airbag, very dependable, looks aren't too bad, price should be VERY reasonable. The motors almost never give any major problems
