okay here is the deal. i'm 41 years old 6ft 4in 285 lbs. 38inch waist 44 inch chest. I DONT WANT TO BE THIS BIG. i have tried every diet known to mankind, i have tried all the workouts, i want to get down to about 220 lbs 32 inch waist. as of december 1, i began my "newest workout routine". i work out 11 times a week, every morning and 4 nights a week i am on a tread mill at 4.0 miles/hour at 11% incline for 60 minutes (treadmill says i lose 1200 calories everytime). i have tried light weights in the past but my weight goes up huge. lazy i am not !! during the day i snack on fruits (apples/oranges) and veggies (bag of carrots on my desk) and soup broth. dinners are usually salad (lite dressing) with cut up chicken breast. so can anyone tell me why i am not losing any weight? yes i know i am biulding muscle and muscle weights more but why arent i shrinking? i drink about a liter of water everyday but nothing is happening. any help would be appreciated

you should actually be drinking about 2 litres per day of water and if you work out that much, maybe even 3-4 litres. try upping that. also, are you sure youre eating enough? youre a big guy and if you cut your cal that much and work out that much, your body might be in starvation mode (read: hoarding calories). Make sure youre getting at least 1200 cal per day, because your snacks and dinner are low cal, it's possible youre not getting enough. Try incorporating something with more protein as your snacks, maybe jerky (turkey, beef or soy), nuts (almonds are best, but fatty, so only a small handful per day), and soy crisps (the cinnamon flovor is tasty).

Youre doing the right thing in terms of exercise, but weight is a function of diet more than exercise in your case. Just make sure you're eating enough.

If all those things still dont work, you have to realize that your body wants to be a certain weight. If you hit a wall and youre working as hard as you sound like you are, then you might just be at your ideal body weight. If you put on more muscle, it will consume fat in order to maintain your weight. That might be a better option for you. And you tend to put on the muscle weight before you notice fat loss.

Good luck!

First...you take your weight and divide by .66 and take that number and convert to oz. That's how much water you need to consume. You are not drinking enough.

Second...see your family physician and get a blood screen done. This is to make sure your are not having a thyroid problem.

Third...scrap that routine. The tread mill is not bad...but stop lifting. Change up by riding a bike...you need to do a varity of things to keep the body fooled into continuing to lose.

Forth...ease up on your eating...doesn't matter if it is healthy if you are eating too much.
