When you pet them you bring up a lot of their own dried and dead skin cells, which gets in their nose and irritates them, so they sneeze.

a sneeze is not always what it seems. Some dogs use a sneeze sound as a form of communication. Still yet dogs can become irritated by the smell of perfume, cologune, and deodorant. Still yet other dogs can be allergic to human skin cells.

Maybe they're allergic.
If the problem was you sneezed every time you pet a dog, I'd say you're allergic to dogs.
So the only explanation I can think of is, dogs are allergic to you!

Like we can be allergic to them and what is on their fur. They can be allergic as well.
When this happens, it is usually a perfume or soap or shampoo choice.
Try eliminating on of these at a time. Perfume first, if you wear it.
then go for hypoallergenic shampoo, soap etc. as needed.
My daughter told me it was her underarm deodorant, changed to frangrance free and no more problem for her dog.
If you smoke or are around others who do, the lingering smoke smell makes most dogs sneeze a lot!
Not likely his own dander, but all things are possible. If you eliminate these others try more baths for him/her.
Good luck!

My dog doesn't do that but I would guess because as you pet them their fur goes in their face and that which causes them to sneeze.

If your dog gets really exciting it starts breathing in quickly and any dust and fur can cause them to sneeze.
