Hey MK,
These seven subjects -grammar, rhetoric, logic, arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy -were considered a unity. They were divided into two parts: the trivium of grammar, rhetoric and logic; and the quadrivium of arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. All seven made an integrated whole which also made all seven necessary.

There is a tradition of the seven lively arts. These are Music, Dance, Poetry, Literature, Architecture, Drama, and Art, if I remember correctly. This goes back for centuries. It is meant to be an all-encompassing description of Man's creative activities. A related topic would be the list of muses for creativity.
