She's nine, you don't convince her, you make her. As for the her sensitive scalp, do simple hair styles that do not take any time at all, like the single ponytail. Or try doing it while she sleeps.

I agree with whoever said, "she's nine. You don't convince her. You make her." I'm assuming this question is coming from a mom. You're her mom. When you say do, it should be done. There's no discussion.
On the same token, if it truly is hurting her, and she's losing hair in the process, she is old enough already to have the texture of her hair naturally softened. I'm not talking relaxers here - that's a bad idea, and in the long run, she'll lose more hair. But, you can take her to a hair salon to ask questions about softening her hair texture to make the experience easier for the both of you.
Also, Just For Me came out with an natural, at-home texture softener not too long ago. It uses sunflower seed oil to keep the hair protected and moisturized, and I've heard nothing but good things about it from actual customers. You use it on her hair every 10 to 12 weeks, and she would actually be able to brush her hair herself sometimes, too.
Some of my friends who have natural hair have even used it, and it worked pretty well.
Buena suerte!

If you say things to persuade her, it may give her low self esteem or make her think that looks are more important than the person. Get her a chin to shoulder length hair cut that is stylish and doesn't require alot of maintenance.

cut it! sure sounds mean, but it will grow back... when my daughter was younger she refused to brush her hair or let me brush it.. morning after morning.. i got tired of the whining and cut her hair just below the ears.. no more tangles.. now she is almost 10 and she brushes her hair every morning without being asked!

Do a style that can last a day or two...Like braids or flat twists. Make sure you tie a scarf on it to keep it neat. If she sees she only has to do it every other day maybe it will make it more manageable.

let her go to school one day without you doing it or helping her do it. if she doesnt get frustrated trying to do it herself, she'll definately come around when she shows up to school and everyone asks her what happened to her hair. it sounds cruel but at least shes just 9. she might not remember it when shes older.
