Crop "Circles" come in all kinds of shapes. The one thing most seem to have in common is that they are geometric in structure. That is, they take the laws of trigometry and push them to the limits.
Some of the greatest art ever made, in my opinion--no matter how they're done.
Check out cropcircleconnector.com for some really cool ones from this past year.
Here's an odd thing about crop circle formations, the "authentic" ones are always made when nobody's looking.

Wind can lay down a neat crop circle, such as by a dust devil. But some designs are more elaborate than anyone would expect from a natural phenomenon. Even on the blackest, moonless nights one can still see by starlight or ambient city light, after one's eyes adapt. That typically takes 15 to 20 minutes for college aged pranksters. Not all crops circles have been explained as the hijinks of local pranksters, but plenty of them have been, and that is the most likely explanation for all of them. It just does not seem likely extraterrestrials would go to the trouble to scare a few farmers, when it would so easy for them to scare millions in some populated city by flattening "building" circles...

At one time to be square was not cool. So the aliens don't do "square" just to keep the old timers happy. Besides the sticks and strings they use only work for circles! ;-)

You can make them any shape you want. Might as well ask if you can draw a square on a piece of paper - go right ahead, I say.
You do know the whole thing was a hoax, don't you?

Natural crop circles are caused by a fungi disease. If you think at microorganisms cultures in Petri dishes, they always grow in circles. It's nature's way.

I'm sure the people stamping the corn down could make it square. If they are real why are they always on a hillside next and to a main road????
