In my mind I immediately label people who string 5 or more religious terms together in a sentence as moronic, or at best simple-minded. Despite their intention, "You need to surrender to the holy spirit and accept His love to save your soul" sounds remarkably like "I'm going to Hawaii, yaaaaaay!"
I'm just curious if it's my own connotations I'm attributing to these people, or if they really do spout non-sequiter jargon, or if I'm the dumb one? Thanks!

Well, I hesitate to label the religious as uninitelligent. Remember, even paranoid schizophrenia and high intelligence are often found in the same person...
But yeah, I tend to cringe when they break out the jargon. And yeah, they do tend to sound a bit like Charlie Brown's teacher when they do that.

Are you really so narrow minded and judgemental?
Just as you have the right to be an athiest, others have the right to practise religion. Regardless of your beliefs you should at least be able to show maturity and intelligence by accepting that not everyone thinks the same way.
You sound like some spoilt little rich kid who is trying too hard to rebel..

People who say something like this sentence you quote really seem quite stupid and annoying to me, but I can't say that about religious people in general, because there are religious people who are intelligent and who don't try to push their believes on others.

You're not the dumb one. Most that I see around here do sound pretty ridiculous. Have faith though (heh). There are some people who can talk intelligently about their religion.

I completely agree with you. I have a hard time hearing anything they say because I'm too busy thinking 'what a shame...you're so blinded.'

I don't think all religious people sound stupid, but yes, the ones that blab like that make me laugh. "Jesus loves you, take him into your heart before you burn in hell with all the homos!"
