I am looking for a recipe from the 70's that was called something like 'Shrimp 'n' Rice Ortega'. It was made with shrimp, celery, onion, sour cream and some type of red Ortega sauce. It was served over rice. Does anyone have that recipe?

It does not have bacon in it. I already emailed Ortega, and they do not have it. Basically you take onion and celery and saute it in butter. Add cooked tail-off shrimp, sour cream and a red type salsa (Ortega doesn't even make that particular type anymore). Heat until hot and serve over rice. It looks kind of pink when you are done. I just don't have the proportions. Thanks!

Shrimp with Salsa Rice

Shrimp and Ortega Salsa make this rice dish one to remember..

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups white rice, uncooked
1 small onion, chopped
2 cups ORTEGA Salsa - Thick & Chunky
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 pound medium raw shrimp
4 slices bacon, cooked, drained and crumbled
Heat oil in medium skillet; cook rice and onion until golden brown. Add chicken broth and salsa; stir. Cover; cook over low heat for 20 minutes or until rice is tender and most of liquid is absorbed. Place shrimp on rice; cover. Cook over low heat 4 to 6 minutes or until shrimp is fully cooked. Season with salt and grown black pepper; top with bacon.
Makes 4 servings.

This is the only one i could find. Sorry sour cream not listed as an ingredient.

This reminds me of a dish called Shrimp Creole (Creole: A dish made with tomatoes and peppers, usually served over rice.) from my 1974 Betty Crocker cookbook. The sauce will be red, but this recipe does not have sour cream. See what you think...

"Quick and Easy Shrimp Creole" - 6 servings

1 medium onion; minced (about 1/2 cup)
2 tbsp. butter or margarine
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1/4 cup diced celery
1 bay leaf; crushed
1 tsp. snipped parsley
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. cayenne red pepper
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
2 cups water
2 cups cleaned cooked shrimp (see Note)
3 cups hot cooked rice

Cook and stir onion in butter until onion is tender. Stir in remaining ingredients (except shrimp and rice). Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes. Stir in shrimp; heat through. Serve over rice.
NOTE: From 1 1/2 lbs. fresh or frozen shrimp (in shells), 2 (7 oz.) packages frozen peeled shrimp, or 2 (4 1/2 to 5 oz.) cans shrimp.
