She is smart for her age she says everyone 's name that she knows. We have to get her pen and paper to keep her occupied sometimes. It is possible for a 1 year old to talk.

She's going to say what she hears. Only if her parents stop and make a big deal about her doing it will she stop. When she gets old enough to understand and decide for herself if she thinks it's ok or bad maybe she will stop.

My daughter had a similar problem. She was just mimicing what she heard from others. Who am I kidding? I was the one with the potty mouth. If anyone reacted to what she did (whether it was laughing at her or yelling) she just kept it up. Finally we just stopped reacting to it whenever she said (while trying to cut back on my cursing also-which meant I had to let my husband do the majority of the driving), and she stopped in no time.

If you don't give them a reaction when they do it, it's no longer interesting and fun.

Now she is 5 and if she hears a bad word she will immediately tell you to "say I am sorry and don't say that again-it's a bad word!"

The only reason a young child curses is because the people close to them curse. They are not born with curse words embeded into their brain. Do not swear around her and tell her parents to keep their mouths zipped.

Unfortunately, children are excellent mimics! They will re-create things that they have seen, and will repeat things they have heard. Make sure not to punish her, b/c she won't be able to understand it is a bad word, but tell her parents not to say words like that around her anymore, and hopefully she'll forget it!

Good luck!

This sounds made up. I don't know any 1 year old that can talk with actual words - let alone profanity. Even if this was true, she isn't learning this kind of language by herself.

Yep, they will do it to you every time! Here's the thing, she couldn't say it, if she hadn't heard it.
Before my cousin was to be Christened, he always popped out with F***! We tried to laugh and say "firetruck" to get him to maybe change his word, but it really didn't help. Good luck!

Yeah, obviously the adults she keeps company with are very mature. That seems to be where she picks up her language skills.
