That's only 6600 miles a year, which is pretty low. Most cars built in the early/mid 90's should get you 15 years or 150,000 miles. I'd take it if it seems like a car you'd be happy driving. Keep a budget for repairs, just in case. One coming up soon will be timing belt at 100K miles, prolly $500.

Reliability wise I wouldn't trust this Pontiac for anymore than 100,000. Which means you have about 20,000 miles left before things start happening. The reason I'm saying this is because domestic cars were not as good or reliable 10-20 years ago as they are now. For $4200 you can get an Acura Integra, Eagle Talon, which is the same as the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Honda Civic, Mazda MX-6, Nissan 240SX, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Celica and the Toyota Paseo. All of these cars are far more reliable, for the most part, than the Pontiac Sunfire. However, you never know. Your Pontiac could turn out to be more reliable then the rest, even though that is very unlikely to happen.

Sounds like you may have a sticking thermostat or a water pump propeller problem. If you bled out the system, I would check for proper thermostat operation. Check the upper and lower radiator hoses to see if they are about the same temperature. If one is colder than the other you may have a problem with the thermostat. For the water pump, try to look inside the radiator to see if you can see coolant flowing through. If you can see flow, then the water pump should be pumping. I would start with the thermostat though. I hope this helps.
