The answer heidavey gave, leviticus 15:16-18 is not really correct. True you would become unclean until evening, but being unclean is not a sin. You would also be unclean if you touched a dead body, a woman was considered unclean during her period. Clearly these are not sins. How would you bury a body if you could not touch it? Likewise, a woman has no control over her period, how could she be sinning just by being a woman?

While the bible does not specifically mention mastubation as being a sin, it is generally considered to be immoral. Masturbation is a sex act, and the bible does state that sex should be between a man and woman, who are married.

Another example is when Jesus said that even if you look at a woman lustfully you have commited adultry with her. Meaning that we are responsible for our thoughts, and they should be pure. During masturbation you probably don't have very pure thoughts in your head.

Well, according to the bible it is.

Leviticus 15:16-18
And if any man's seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the even. And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the even. The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.
