I have realized that my boyfriend and I are going in differant directions in our lifes. I want certain things and he wants other things and we are no longer wanting the same things. Is it terrible to break up with him before christmas? Should I wait?

It would be meaner to pretend to be all loving over the holidays and then dump him- Christmas will be a total lie. At least there's holiday cheer going on to keep him occupied if you end it now.

YOU are brokem hearted?! For real?! Well, this is pretty natural, from high school to 24 is the main period of time where all the changes in both your character happen, these changes might get your love even deeper or - lik in your case - it might get it weaker... Don't mind the loss you feel, it is just human nature, we only appreciate what we can't get or what we don't have, and this is mainly caused by his last words... You were obviously in charge og the relationship cuz he loved you more than you loved him, and probably that's why you got bored of it first, but when for the first time he appeared like HE is in charge ( I will not be willing to take you back ) that's when you changed you mind about the whole thing... Well, moving on, if this feeling of "I am not IN love with him" came to you, then breaking up was the best choice, cuz you would have brok up sooner or later, and a break up is way better than a devorce, isn'e it?! What you're going throught now is natural, 6 years is a long time, just find yourself a human hug, eat some chocolate and you'll be over it.. I promise :)

That's kind of cruel really. Christmas is supposed
to be a happy time, and if you did that, nothing
would be very happy. I guess you could though,
if you really want to get out of it as soon as possible.
But is there a chance that maybe the two of you
could compromise on the things you want?
A three year relationship sounds like a great
commitment, and now you just want to throw it
away?

All I'm saying is just don't jump on one decision
and go with it, give yourself some time to think.

If you break up with him before after christmas either way it will be painful. Just do it when you think it is most correct. It isn't "mean" if you realize that it just isn't working out. Breaking up before christmas wouldn't be mean, it is the way that you do which will determine if it was mean or not. The decision is soley yours but just know that it won't be any easier before or after the holidays. a break up is a break up and well, if you see it is truly over, do not hesitate to end it.

from my experience, break it off now. I had a bf that waited until after the holidays to break up with me, during the holidays he acted like nothing was wrong and we were perfectly happy and then BAM! out of the blue he broke up with me. I asked him how long he had been unhappy and he said for a few months. my point is it hurt me even more when he pretended everything was great just to make it thru the holidays, I would have preferred him to be honest, we were together for 2 yrs I think we were at that stage where honesty is expected. but thats just my opinion

The best thing to do is wait until the right moment even if it means waiting until after Christmas.

If you think about it both ways is a loss...if you wait till after the holidays then it looks like you just wanted to get your christmas presents from him..and if you dont wait then your look like a B****. I would just do what you think is right...the holidays are always a bad time for things like that.

Since I don't celebrate Christmas I could care less however, If he does and it is an important holiday to him I would wait until after the new year.

Its terrible!! You should atleast wait till like the end of January! That would put you between christmas and V-Day! You should sit back and make sure thats what you want... look at all the people up here... " i broke up with my bf of 3 years, and now i want him back"!!! Dont be one of those people!!! good luck, merry xmas
