I have a son who works for a major department store. He has told me, that if it weren't for Christmas, his store would never show a profit for the year.
Would this country survive? Of course, I just don't know if we would like it here or not.

Nope. It depends on easy credit. Which the Federal Reserve Bank has graciously granted to all the banks to allow them to provide you an easily accessible credit card with exorbidant fees and interest rates. Of which you sign up and say hey I have money, now I can go out and spend on something I want or on a Christmas present(s).
Then the bill comes later and you say how am I ever going to pay that thing? Of which you go get a second job and attempt work off the debt you couldn't afford in the first place.
Work, save, and save some more. Debt is slavery. Get Debt Free.

I heard that the average American spends $800 on Christmas. I honestly thought it would be higher but I guess that would mean a husband and wife spend $1600. (Person, not household)
I think the American economy would change drastically if the Christmas shopping stopped. I am positive our country would survive but large retailers would be hurt.
I don't understand why this question would be removed. It's a good question about a religious holiday if you ask me.

weird? yahoo is stupid. they keep deleting my valid questions too..
however, i would say that a big part of economy relies on christmas. i think we would still survive without it. but maybe we wouldnt thrive? or get some people so much more money...
