If he/she is arguing because they want to be with you and is very young, it doesn't hurt to let them in so they don't feel lonely or leave the door open. Any older, though, I say "Honey, Mommy has to go to the potty now. I'll be back as soon as I'm finished and then we can talk about this more." If the arguing continues simply walk into the bathroom and close the door. You may hear some whining and yelling - the only response you should make is to encourage your child after, or before,to understand that when you are in the bathroom you are not really "gone". After a few times of you claiming your right to the bathroom, your child will learn that it is useless to argue the point. Good luck!=)

I would leave to door open so they can learn that going to the potty isn't a bad thing, You can still talk and make funny noises at the same time...eg: pee hitting the water.

Tell them to hold that thought, go potty, then come back and resume the conversation/argument.

I only had that happen once and I informed my child "I'd love to stay and chat, but I have to pee, and you won't win this argument." The child will still argue sometimes, but usually knows he won't win.
