I bought a 42" SONY LCD tv 2 years ago for £3500, it isnt HD ready, can i upgrade my TV to HD or did i just throw the money away when i bought my current TV!!!!

No, High Definition TV's have more pixels/lines to display the picture. A HD TV has anywhere between 800 to 1080 (as far as I'm aware) lines/pixels which makes the picture clearer. A standard TV has alot less, to upgrade a standard TV to HD you'd have to add more pixels which can't be done without altering the display matrix.

I've heard it's possible to get devices that can simulate it, but I think this is just all rumours.

The reason being is that HD has over 2x the resolution of a regular TV, it'd be like taking an original GameBoy and trying to play a DS game on it, wouldn't be possible, because it doesn't have the graphical or audio capabilities.

HD, is high definition as you probably know, basically your telly hasn't got high enough resolution, so it is onto ebay with it and a new one if you what HDTV
you will also need a hi def box to reeive the channels apart from bbc

High Definition televisions are set up different then a regular LCD t.v. so you probley will have to go and buy a HD ready television

You can watch HD on your set with an HD STB, BUT it will not be nearly in as high of resolution as a true HD set would deliver. Sorry!
