Some shots could be close range but I could shoot as far as 300 yards. I am hunting coyotes.

GOOD CHOICE
HAD AN ENCORE IN .243 WIN. SHOOT DARN NEAR AS SMALL OF GROUPS AS MY REM 7OO IN .243

I ASSUME YOU WILL BE LOOKING FOR A LONG LONG EYE RELIEF HANDGUN SCOPE
FOR THE MONEY INVESTED TAKE A LOOK AT SIGHTRON
I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM SOME OF THE LESSER EXPENSIVE ONES OUT THERE LIKE SIMMONS OR BSA AND GO FOR A FIXED POWER AS YOU WILL GET MORE LENS FOR THE MONEY AS OPPOSED TO A VARIABLE
(JUST MY OPINION OF COURSE)
IF YOU ARE HAND LOADING BE SURE TO GET LOADING DATA FOR THE ENCORE (PROBABLY USING A 15 INCH BBL ?) RATHER THAN THE RIFLE DATA
YOU WILL BE USING A FASTER BURNING POWDER DUE TO BBL LENGTH AND WILL GET ALOT LESS MUZZLE BLAST FROM UNBURNED POWDER

For the money, I recommend the Nikon Buckmaster 4-12 x 50 SF or the 4.5 - 14 x 40. They will both give you great long range shooting ability (for a coyote at 300 yards) and low light / close range at 4x. You can also get the 4.5-14 x 40 in the BDC reticle. You may like it with a .243 at 300 yards but I still prefer a plex or mil dot reticle.

Since the Encore has the scope mounted on the barrel and it comes off with the barrel when you change barrels it should not change zero. Since you are experiencing a change of zero when you change barrels, it sounds to me as if you have a loose mount or the scope is not firmly held in the mount. This would allow the scope to move when you remove the barrel from the frame to replace it with another barrel. Check your scope and mounts to see if they are loose. Another possible problem could accur if you allow oil to get between the rings and the scope. If you apply too much oil to the barrel prior to storing it, the oil will do what oil is designed to do and lubricate the inside of the rings which can allow the scope to move. All of this assumes that you have a separate scope mounted on each barrel. If you are moving your scope from barrel to barrel as you change barrels then that is your problem right there. Each time the scope is removed and replaced on another mount, it will need to be rezeroed. This is not only because the likelyhood of having the scope fit in the new mounts exactly as it did before, but also because the new barrel will shoot to a different zero. Hope this helps.

I'd prefer a Leupold VXII at least a 4-12 power adjustable objective for rifle barrel, pistol scope 4-12 or greater Burris.

is it a rifle or pistol barrel?if its a rifle barrel then i choose Bushnell for my 300 encore, they are very reliable and fairly priced, you should get something with a high magnification range and a large objective say 4-12x50 if that is the only thing that you plan on hunting is yotes or you can go bigger if you like ,what it boils down to is what you can afford and what appeals to you,Bushnell gets my vote

I use a BSA contender 3-12- 40 scope on my .243 and it is all you will ever need for a coyote gun. And best of all you can get one for about 75 dollars.

Start in this arena.
Duplex reticle
Magnification. 6-24x50
Objective Diameter.- 50 mm
Field of View- 25.1'-6.3' @ 100 yards
Eye Relief. 97 - 84 mm
Exit Pupil- 12.5 - 3.1 mm
Click Value: 1/8 inch (I click @ 100 yards)
This will give you a good field of view. a good picture and great adjustability .
Food for thought.

Try a leupold 4.5x14 or a 6.5x20 either will take you to 300 yards easy. Don't overlook the 3.5x10 either.
