i had mine removed when i was 15 yrs . i had strep throat so much a child that my tonsils were permanently infected. i would get strep at least 3x a year. they finally removed them when they swelled so much i couldn't breathe. i haven't gotten strep since but i can't take antibiotics now . i have become immune to most antibiotics.

It used to be the trend when one sibling got their tonsils removed they all did. However, things have changed radically. The tonsil is a lymph organ and it helps in aiding to fight infections. They are removed only if a person has continual sore throats and are so large that a person has trouble breathing.

In certain cases, the infection upon them is irreprepairable. It'd do much more good to simply remove them rather than constantly having to have strep throat due to them.
