The official church name is:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)

NOT polygamists
NO horns (hehehe!)
NO arranged or underage marriage...
VERY good people (mostly.... you will always be able to find exceptions... i guess that would be in anything... but the teachings are very good)
Believe in staying morally clean (sex only to who you're MARRIED to)
Believe in taking care of your body (advised against alcohol, drugs, tobacco...)
VERY FAMILY oriented!

Here are the 13 Articles of Faith:
1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon this the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

They are nicknamed "Mormons" by many...

However, you must be careful in using that term, as another group is commonly known by that name as well
-polygamists
-RLDS (R stands for "reorganized")
This is a group that wanted to make up there own rules...

The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints was formed by Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was visited by the angel Moroni who gave him a device called the urimum and thumim to translate golden plates into what the Mormons call the Book of Mormon. Their belief is that Jesus visited this American Continent when He was on this earth, and that He left these golden plates for His Other lost sheep that He mentions in the bible. Their faith is based upon this book. They are very strongly family oriented and believe the family will be totally united in the Kingdom of Heaven. Hope this helps.

The official name of the "Mormon" Church is: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It's interesting to note that this is the largest group, but not the only group that refers itself as Mormons. There have been small splinter groups that have separated from the main body of the Church that are fundamentalists, but have nothing to do with the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The newsroom link provided below fully answers your question.

Later day saints and Mormons are the same. Not sure about the church of Jesus Christ... that term has been in conjunction with many different organizations.

Mormons are a relatively new religion and base most of their ceremonies on Free Masonry (note: Free Masons are not a religion and do not endorse any particular religion).

Oh actually I remember a teacher telling me once that the church had said this on name respect and ettiquite: We can be called "Mormons" and it's okay. and we can say you are a "Mormon" and I am a "Mormon". "Mormonism" is also okay, because that is our "ism." we couldn't say we practice Latter-Day-Saintism, see? what they don't want us to call it is "the Mormon church" or "I am a part of the LDS Church." As for "LDS," because the whole acronym would be so long it would defeat the purpose, "LDS" alone is fine. By stating that we are LDS, we imply that we are latter day saints of the Church of Jesus Christ. It still is proper and shows respect. Even though many other names acceptable, of course the most respect would indeed be to state that we are members of the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints." Or just "we belong to the Church of Jesus Christ" to simplify haha. hope that was understandable and that it helped! have a good night!

I have many cousins that are avid members and my parents were married in that church, so I know a lot about them.
First- yes, they are the same thing. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints i.e. the Mormons.
Second- they were founded by Joseph Smith in 1830. He was a great deceiver; in his earlier days he tricked people into paying him to search for hidden treasure by looking through rocks. His father followed the same profession. His wife's name was Emma Smith and she was a big part of the foundings.
Third- some of the other main founders of the Mormon Church include Heber C. Kimball, my ancestor by about 5-6 generations. Brigham Young was the second president, a devout follower of Joseph Smith and the list goes on.
Fourth- in the Church's earlier days many of the members were polygamists; they had many wives. Heber C. Kimball had 43 wives and 65 children.
Fifth- their main text is the Book of Mormon. They claim it agrees with the Bible but they believe in more than one God, that polygamy is acceptable, that 1,000 year old 6' tall Quakers live on the moon, murder is a deadly sin; no forgiveness for it. Many of their own writings disagree for instance in one place in the Book or Mormon is says murder is unforgivable and in another it says you can be forgiven for murder.
Sixth- The current leaders of the Church have had to change their teachings with the current times, especially with polygamy. However, many members of the 'fundamentalist Latter Day Saints' do still have more that one wife.
Seventh- The Church also claims to be Christian but this is obviously false.

Hope this helps and have a great day!

The official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mormon's or LDS is just a nickname for members of that church.

For the most accurate information about our beliefs (as opposed to weird misconceptions lots of people have about us) I suggest you check out the official church website: www.lds.org

Thanks.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The Mormon Church teaches that there are many Gods (Book of Abraham 4:3ff), and that we can become gods and goddesses in the celestial kingdom (Doctrine and Covenants 132:19-20; Gospel Principles, p. 245; Achieving a Celestial Marriage, p. 130). It also teaches that those who achieve godhood will have spirit children who will worship and pray to them, just as we worship and pray to God the Father (Gospel Principles, p. 302).

Furthremore, God was once a man who progressed to Godhood. Mormons believe we can do the same. Their God has a physical body of flesh and bone.

There are many gods in heaven. God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are supposedly separate gods, united only in purpose.

God is having kids. Surrounded by what must be 1,000 or more wives, God is having little spirit babies which will inhabit the people born on the earth. The number of babies this requires Him to produce daily is incredible! No explanation is given why their God of flesh and bone, having babies through physical sexual contact with his wives, has only spirit babies. They teach that Mary married God to have Jesus (or else He would have been illegitimate) and then divorced him to marry Joseph.

And on and on it goes...

L.D.S. or Mormon or the church of Jesus Christ if Latter day saints all one and the same. They believe that Satan and Jesus are brothers and God did not like satan's plan, but like Jesus plan. Jesus to the mormons died so they coudl pray to him for forgiveness, oh and died on the cross, but thats about it, that won't get them into heaven because their theology has paganism and freemasondry in it besides their claim of Christianity. They claim to be the church from jewish days and they had many wives in the O.T. days so hence they believe in pligamy. But god did not create adam and eve and denice and stacey ect. Anyways. they are prejudice becasue they believe in a preexistance and they think that a lot of people went with satans plan (black people)and some kind of went with Jesus and satan (lighter skin people) and those that went with Jesus (whites). they believe that mary was marriade to God, so thats what happened when the holy ghost came over here...they did it. This is a higher form of their theology, one that is only taught in the temple, so their are two theologies going on, the one that nontemple mormon's know about and the one that temple mormons know about. ect.

Mormons, Latter Day Saints, Re-Organized Latter Day Saints, and Community of Christ, are all factions (splits) of the same religion. They are all pseudo-Christian. They are all cults.
