-k- I just answered someone else question regarding unsafe sex and it got me thinking. How often should I get tested for STD's?

Even though I personally insist on practicing safe sex, I still think it's important to get tested. How often do you think I/all of us who are sexually active be tested for STD's? Is once every two months too often or is that pretty conventional?

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a raving nympho, I only have sex when I'm in a committed relationship, but I still get tested because I can never tell if/when my partner has been with someone else.

even though i don't sleep aroundlike that, i try to get tested after every partner because you can never be too careful due to the fact that the person might not even know they have something. its good to know that you practice safe sex!

In order to get a truthful outcome on the results, it is better to just be tested once every three months. You must know that most STD's don't just appear over a short period, as most of them need time to get into the bloodstream and cultivate. No-one can point to anyone and say oh that person has a STD of some kind or other. To be safe and really get honest results it also takes time, but when you feel that you have any strange symptoms that you are not familiar with, I would suggest you see a Medical Professional immediately.

Good for you! I definitely agree that it's impt. to get test whether or not you have unsafe sex b/c you just never know. I'd ask a medical practioner how often it's necessary to get tested. Once a year minimum I would think. Remember though that there are certain STD's that a male cannot be tested for e.g. HPV virus and there are no visible signs present on a female that you can look for. People assume this is genital herpes, but actually only one strain of HPV causes herpes, the other strains can cause cervical and penis cancer. It's a scary world out there. I'm surprised there are not more people who desire to remain monogamous. You may want to get tested in between sexual partners.

A little paranoid about your partner? Get tested with every new partner before you do anything, so you know that your both clean. After that..well, unless you spot a problem, don't worry about it. Unless you're sleeping around, then get tested. As long as your only sleeping with one person, it dosen't really matter if you have an std, as long as it won't cause problems. Personally, I think every two months is a little extreme. Maybe once every six months or a year.

I think most people who actually get tested do it every 6 months. I've been tested 2x within 6 months...I'm good. I had a baby 3 months ago and Im not in a committed relationship so I haven't been doing anything. I don't have time to...I have a newborn. The next guy I meet has to take HIV/Aids test, criminal background check, lie detector test...everything...Lmao! Hey, you can never be too careful these days. A lot of sick twisted people in the world.

Anytime you are with a new partner you should have yourself and hopefully your partner tested as well. You can never be too careful this day and age, where 1/4 college students will contract an std before they graduate...

You should always get tested before having sex with a new partner. if that is not an option, get tested after having unprotected sex. it is also important to make sure that ur partner is tested. u should go together and have it done.

Just have protected sex and limit partners - you really don't need to get tested that often unless you think there is a reason to (unprotected sex or your partner is stepping out on you)

It'll never hurt to go and get tested. I'd say a safe thing is every 6 months, unless you stay with a steady girlfriend. Best of luck to ya.
