I would have thought the self proclaimed "holy book" would have had a more convincing story that jesus was the son of god, mary was a virgin, talking donkeys etc... ie. some actual hard evidence and proof.
I am not actually looking towards being a christian (again) but why did the "good" book convert me in the an atheist??

Gina S. I'd appreciate it if you DO NOT carry out any superstitious rituals such as "praying" for me. Its pointless. Prayer has been proven not to even work!

Thanks for all the answers, some are quite enlightening, other are plain old brainwash. Having read the entire bible cover-cover, i have decided it is time to ditch this work of fiction from my book shelf. To ensure no else get hold of this work of evil, i am going to burn it page by page untill it is ash :-)

Because if you read it cover to cover you realize it is a mixture of Jewish mythology (old Testament) and concentrated brainwashing effort by the early Catholic church (new Testament).

Probably because you read it with a closed mind as many doubtful Christians do. And if the stories and teachings and accounts actually were the causes of you falling away, then it is because you do not have faith. But of course only you know the answer to such a question; no one can read your mind. It's a shame, however, that you are now an atheist after doing what so many Christians fail to accomplish i.e. reading the entire Bible. If you really do honestly approach it with the Holy Spirit in you, you will not turn away as you did. Don't brush this off just because I said you need the Holy Spirit. Atheists so commonly do not acknowledge this as a possibility because they need 'proof,' like you. Look around you and you have proof enough there is a god. Read the historical accounts and you'll have proof a god came to earth. Have faith and you'll recognize who this god is- the God. Jesus. God bless.

Don't blame the Bible for your way of thinking! You made that decision, because you didn't understand what you were reading, the Bible is a very complicated book, the whole world could read the Bible and get a different interpretation of it. Many people don't believe there is a God, because they cannot see Him. This is because God is like the wind, you cannot see the wind, but you know it is there! Look in the mirror, what do you see? You are looking at a miracle of birth that happened the day you were born! You came from a seed that was planted in your Mothers womb. What do you get when you plant flower seeds in the ground? Beautiful flowers, Well, we are all Gods beautiful flowers, all different colors!

No, and that i did no longer ought to study the Koran, the e book of Mormon, the Iliad, the Odyssey, or the Bhagavad Gita conceal to cover the two. I purely had to hearken to what the believers say and understand they had no data to lower back them up, because those books are making the comparable assertions they do with the comparable quantity of knowledge. It would not rely what Abraham, Aristotle, Moses or Fred Bloggs worshiped, The data for all gods is the comparable. None in any respect. And that is going for something of their assertions inclusive of souls, sin, salvation and each of something.

Because you are looking for facts in a metaphor. The purpose of the bible was to train poorly educated people into a belief of a power higher. If you read the bible as a cynic you lose the poetry of the book. You do not have to believe in the bible word for word (although some fanatics think you must) but you can take away some valuable lessons from the stories. Even Moby Dick has a moral.

Why did you read it in the first place? Did you think that reading the Bible was going to 'make' you saved? The answer to your question is that you trusted in the wrong thing.
Also, reading something doesn't mean tht you understood it.
Was the ark of Noah just an ark? Was the tabernacle just a tent? Were the orders of God how to make it just random and meaningless? Why was the Passover done the way it was? What common thread of behavior was rewarded by God both in the Old Testament and New Testament?
What were you thinking while you were reading the Bible?
You never got off your spiritual butt and involved trust in God! You might as well have never read the Bible. / :

to answer your question to me on someone elses question: "who created the creator?"
Jesus is the Begining and the End, The Alpha and Omega, you would know this if you truely understood the bible after reading it "cover to cover". God doesn't have a begining or an end. he is forever, and has always been.
to answer your current question...i would advise you NOT to read the bible cover to cover. insted read where you need to read my freind, where God leads you. if you have no faith whatsoever, read for your own sake of knowledge then. but remember that to understand the bible, you must undersatnd that Jesus IS God, the Son of God, The Word, ect.

Ya - did you read that part in the O.T., were the man, after the woman was raped to death, chops her up into 8 pieces, then has them thrown on 8 different door steps?
That would be good for a young girl to read eh? But what the heck, it was only a women after all.
The O.T. is a record of mans sins (crimes), for future people.
This is a record of mans mis - rule, of the earth.
Man has not been "taken to court" for these crimes against humanity yet. That is what Judgment Day, is for.

It didn't. Your rejection of it's precepts is what converted you. You read the Bible and made a choice. It's what we all do. Some of us choose to believe and some do not. I have read the Bible (cover to cover) several times over the years and I have never felt the desire to convert to atheism. Quite the opposite, I am always amazed at finding something new each time I read it. It truly is the "living" Word of God. It speaks to me differently each time I read it because He knows what I need to hear at each point in my life. Try reading it again and see if it says something different to you the next time.

No NO NO NO NO NOOOOO....all of you are wrong! Satan is trying to further convert this precious soul and all you are doing is HELPING HIM!!!!
The Word of God is COMPLETELY TRUE. COMPLETELY! there is not a single bit of false in it... Every single word came from the mind of God HIMSELF. If you follow what this Living Book Tells you to do, you will become closer to God and Jesus. Please look back at the amazing gift that you just gave up. There is all evidence and proof that everything really did happen in the Bible. Look at Mt. Everest. One would say, it is a tall mountain, so what? Well look again! there are seashells at the top of Mt. Everest! Now how do you explain that?
The Bible never converted you to an athiest. It was your choice to become one. When one knows God truly, they cannot be converted for doubt is a sin. Please turn back to the Lord God Almighty! This is only Satan's lies that are penetrating your heart. Turn back before Jesus comes again, before you die, before Satan decieves you more! come back home to the lord!
Rethink your choices please. Read the Bible and talk to a Pastor about your thoughts. You will see the wrong in them. The Devil is only trying to blind you to the truth...

The book did not convert you into an atheist, you did. The bible has many contradictions because of the fact that we humans are not perfect and cannot get anything strait. Especially when the context was changed many times by translations.
Don't also forget just because you read it does not mean you understood it. I find many who become atheist think they understood it but in reality don't. Everyone has a different interpretation of what the bible means.
