I don't like it. Then I don't like seeing all these young people on the internet. Very scary that their parents are allowing them this much access unless there is more supervision going on than I know of. Video games and the rest also a no.

I go with toiletries and clothing. My niece goes for that - loves the compliments she gets and how they make her feel. Bought us a trip for two to Hawaii this Christmas. Will show her the non tourist route. Am lucky to be her favorite Aunt (<; Her mother influences me to influence her and we all win on that.

Your niece could disable the web cam when she is not using it. There are a lot of nuts out there this is true. However, you have the control over the device.

A person could trace your steps using your computer. Just using the web cam does not make it more dangerous.

Just set reminders for your niece to turn off the access when she is not using the web cam.

Hell ... NO ... would I ever let a 17 yr old girl have a web cam ... that's ridiculous ... unless you know deep down she's responsible enough and knows the dangers out there I wouldn't think twice about that one ... she would have to give me at least 10 or 15 really good reasons WHY she needs one ... I'm 25 and work on the computer all day long ... I've seen some crazy stuff on the Internet & most of them are young girls ... it's a shame ... I hate seeing naked pictures of little high school girls that don't give a sh*t who sees them nude ... crazy but the world isn't the same anymore ... !

a web cam can be a dangerous thing if used in the wrong ways. like when your chatting w/ someone you never can tell anything about them wheather their a creep a pedophile or a stalker. Maybe if she understands the useage and their are set bounderies and her mother keeps an eye on things. And it just depends how you really feel on giving it and how her mother feels on her getting it.Maybe you and her mother could talk about it before you make a final decision

Is her computer in the living room or her bedroom? If it's in the living room, and her mother can see what is going on, it may be safer. If it's in her bedroom, that's just asking for trouble. Kids have trouble making judgements about who is safe and who isn't. Her friends know what she looks like, so why does she need a web cam?

I'm not so sure on this one. Call me old fashioned, but I say no. That to me is just oozing trouble. A 17yr old teenager + web cam = trouble. Two words for you: American Pie (the movie). Good luck!

She is not a child, she is a young woman and there is no problem with a web cam.

In my experience, teenage girls get themselves in trouble on the internet with things like that. There's no reason she needs one if she's only talking to her friends on there b/c they already know what she looks like. The only reason she'd want one is to be talking to ppl she don't know and that's dangerous and only asking for trouble.
