Evolution is a scientific theory, the belief in Creation is a Religious belief. Creationism, however, is pseudo-science.

Creationism starts with a conclusion, that God created the world in six days, and then tries to prove it. This goes against the scientific Method, which is supposed to start with a hypothesis, which is then tested in an unbiased manner by the scientist, and by other scientists. The Hypothesis can then be changed to reflect what was learned in the previous testing.

While the creation might be true, I am unaware of anyone in modern science has come to it solely by the Scientific Method. I am also unaware of any way Creationism has been modified to reflect what was learned in previous testing.

www.wikipedia.com has a great article on both of the subjects.

Don't let semantics confuse this question. Theory the word has multiple meanings. There is the everyday meaning and the scientific meaning. The theory of evolution is in the same ball park as the theory of gravity.

Creationism is the belief that life was created by a supernatural being. Evolution says that life went through many changes from a simple organism to more complex organisms. Neither one is contradictory, although people like to say they are. You can believe in a higher power and also believe in science.

Good luck with your flamebait!

It's another theory. EVERYTHING is a theory if you look at it.

What most people don't realize is that creation stories don't exist solely in the Christian-Judea world. Stories exist even BEFORE the Bible was made. What makes it so interesting is that ALL creation stories, regardless of their nature or location, begin with utter chaos.

The fact that the Bible states that God was the creater is based on faith. The actual theory of creationism is still just a theory.

Science can prove the HOW of the theory of origins.
Religion can prove the WHY.

Evolution has not yet been proven, although there seems to be substantial evidence for it. Similarly, the big bang is still a theory and both may be subject to revision as we learn more about the world and universe surrounding us.

Creationism is another theory, largely based on faith and belief.

In either case, the important thing is to keep an open mind and realize that theories and knowledge are constantly changing.

Evolution was just a theory some 150 years ago. Now that we know how DNA works, we know the mechanism of evolution and it is completely understood. Unfortunately, evolution did not manage to weed out the ignoramuses in the world who refuse to think logically and accept reality.

Both evolution and creationism are both theories about the past. We rely on evidence for the support of either one. Most seem to thing evolution is a fact, unfortunately.

Just like evolution, creationism is just a theory, however evolution is at least a theory based upon scientifically proven facts, a claim creationism can't make

Fact...it's in the bible you know. Just kidding...for those of you who didn't pick up on the sarcasm. I believe the bible to be a piece of literature so therefore creationism is just a story to me. However, Some people do think it's fact while others think it's a combination between evolution and creationism.

Creationism? Silliness. I prefer Intelligent Design, and the Bible's account of Creation.

A link to a similar discussion of a question, that goes into a lot more depth on this subject:

I find it interesting that the gentleman who provided plenty of references? That's the guy that gets the thumbs down? Just goes to show that the other people believe only what they want to believe. And I'm talking of those who think that scientists say: "It a law of the universe'.

creationism is part of the belief structure of many religions.

the 'theory' that includes creationism, at least implicitly, as an element is intelligent design.

evolution (and intelligent design) is actually a hypothesis. a theory is something that can tested. neither evolution or intelligent design is testable and therefore do not qualify as scientifically valid theories.
