I don't really know why, but women often go silent when I talk to them. I do find small talk to be incredibly boring, so I tend to steer conversation to something more in-depth so we can learn about each other. But so many times after I have said what I have to say on a topic, the girls goes silent and doesn't seem to want to talk much after that, even though I am very willing to listen. I don't know if I'm offensive, long-winded, arrogant or what, but I have a really hard time getting reciprocity in conversation. Any advice?

My advice is to change your tactics and even though you feel small talk is boreing, maybe that's the best way to reach your lady friend in listening and finding you interesting.
You are more than likely from what your saying, LONG WINDED!! Arrogant, I'm not sure about. Most arrogant people don't even ask for advice, cause their no it all's all the time!!
A conversation takes 2, so I'd suggest you find "short winded" boreing if you call it that, conversations that give the other one a chance to talk.

Your first impression is the most important. I tend to feel more comfortable igniting a conversation by making someone laugh first. You have to make sure that you are saying something funny though or you'll just seem creepy. Once you've broken the ice, don't talk about yourself unless someone asks you out of interest. If you seem arrogant or like you know everything, people tend to get irritated and most women are taught to be strong and if we feel we are being belittled by a man, it is a definite turn off from any communication.
Be yourself first and foremost, just try to add a little humor to the conversation and smile, but don't smile like a psycho. Look her in the eyes, not her breasts, and when she does return with the conversation, make sure you are actually listening to what she says.

Be yourself, try not to get to nervous, what is ther to lose when you are around a women? If they dont like you so what there is another women who will like you just the way you are. What does getting nervous do? Mess you up? So what is the point of getting nervous? They have two eyes, a mouth, and a nose. They arent going to bite you, they are a person just like everyone else. Be yourself and you cant go wrong

don't reveal too much of yourself at one time. NEVER tell anyone all about you on the first date. and yes be quiet and give the lady a chance to talk too. no woman wants to hear a man talk all night. and be sure to compliment the lady at least 3 times about something. women love compliments.
but the best thing that i can think of to say to you is just be yourself and if they don't like it then to helllll with them.

don't underestimate small talk.
sure, it has no substance, but it serves to make people comfortable. talk about stupid, obvious things. ask lots of stupid questions. she is probably silent because she can't think of anything to say.
also, women are the talkers. men listen. women talk. even if you are a billion times smarter than her, you listen and she talks. small talk is how you get her to open up and start talking to you.

You must first start with small talk and thereafter develop deeper.

maybe you're talking too much. Be yourself, and don't act weird.
