You don't need to know just words. You have to be completely fluent with the grammar. In terms of vocab.....about 7,500

Itès not about how many words you know of the language. Can you converse with person who is speaking to you Chinese. Can you translate complete sentences from one language to the other. If yes, then go for it. If not, then you really won't be able to help many people.

all of them correctly and also slang and different pitches and sounds, because the person needs to be translated perfectly to avoid conflict.

a LOOOOOT. if chinese is not your native toungue you will have to be a fluent speaker/writer to be able to translate into that languague!
