My Lhasa Apso has a stale water smell around his eyes and mouth?

He is 18 months old and has not always had this problem. It is in the area beneath his eyes but his eyes do not look as though they weep.

Also it does smell like stale water so I am not sure if it is splashing up there when he is having a drink. It just seems strange to become a problem now rather than him always being like that.

Please tell me you can help as currently my dog is stinky!!

if he goes outside yes he may be getting to gross water so watch him on that but if not does he have a cold? if so then it is most likely nasal discharge. (mabey a trip to the groomers will help)

Are you sure his eyes don't weep? A lot of little dogs like lhasa apsos, poodles, and bichon frise have eyes that tear. If you have the hair trimmed back regulary around the eyes and mouth area, and take a wet cloth to that area often, they shouldn't stain. As for the stinky problem, I'm not so sure.

I had a lhasa apso once and i must say that for all the years we had him, he always had very weeping eyes, and the fur around his mouth and eyes was always darker then the rest of him but the vet told us it was normal for this type of dog. We just cleaned his eyes very often and gave him breath fresheners for dogs.

i had the same problem wid my lhasa apso
we took him to a doggy parlor n they bathed him cut his hair and pampered him
it works n ur dog shouldnt get it agen as long as u take him to get groomed often good luck n hope it helps

does your dog have access to the outside? it could be that he is getting into some funky water outside that is causing the smell
