I have had a tooth infection twice in the last 2months.. on the first occasion I was prescribed Amoxyciilin which helped the infection but left the left hand side of my throat swollen with me unable to swallow. I presumed it was remnants of the tooth infection
making my throat swollen and it went away after 10 days.

I got an infection again in the same tooth and took the same antibiotics and this time the right hand side of my throat swelled up.. well my glands.. I went to my Dentist today who said I was allergic to Pencillin.. which is why the swelling was happening...

Is this usual to all of a sudden become allergic to something after many years of being perfectly fine... penicillin was never an issue for me before!

To be allergic to anything you first have to be exposed to it. You obviously had enough of an exposure the first time that now your immune system is saying "wait a second this is an invader sic him" If you had a small warning this time then great but never take it again as the next time could be much much worse. That is a strange way to manifest an allergy to a med however. Might want a second opinion

Yes. I had the same situation. I never had a problem with it before and during high school I was put on Penicillin twice within a few months for two different problems and the second time had an allergic reaction.

confident, your physique has a mechanism referred to as the immunne equipment. hypersensitive reactions are using antigens interior the physique that react with antibodies interior the blood circulate. Your physique continously builds antibodies to regular environmental stimulants. some people will react to those antigens(stimulants) and a few won't. indications selection from cough, to runny nostril to even allergies and severe reactions from hives to anaphylazes that could desire to convey approximately dying. Now, those reactions can commence at every time. You physique continously can produce antibodies as a result you arising hypersensitive reactions to issues you have been certainly no longer affected by before. In my case, I wasn't allergic to a element whilst i replaced into little. Now, 23, i'm allergic to all seasonal, all puppy danders, timber, grasses, perfumes, and different miscellaneous issues. i'm no longer, even with the undeniable fact that producing allergens to drugs, that are the severe allergens. regularly bees, peanuts, and medicines allergens are the severe reaction ones. Now, with your puffy eye. which may well be using penicillin hypersensitivity, yet i could say if it relatively is your only reaction, and no rash of any type, that that's in all probability from the cat. Now, cat hair isn't the criminal. that's the cats pores and skin it relatively is the allergen. Dander is what you may desire to be looking out for. you have your physician due a standard IgG attempt for penicillin antibodies and cat dander IgG to make sure which that's. whether that's penicillin, probability is, you may desire to grow to be allergic to it worse than this final time, and grow to be allergic to extra antibiotics in that class.

Yes possibly. It happens all the time. I took Pencillin alot as a little kid (under 5). Then in Kindergarton I broke out in hives after taking it. I have not taken it since.

Acording to my parents I was allergic to penicillin when I was a baby. I was completely sick with the medicine, whenever they gave me anything.

Back in September I had an ear infection that simply wouldn't go away, so I went to my GP. She ended giving me some ear drops with penicillin in them. I didn't get any reaction to the ear drops. Needless to say, you should have seen my mum's reaction when she seen what was in them.

My GP had said that you can get an allergy to something later in life. And that it can also go the other way, where you are no longer allergic to something.

I'm no doctor but I do know that allergies can be aggravated. You can be allergic to something and be blissfully unaware of it until something triggers the allergy. My brother, for instance, is allergic to all sorts of things but the only time he's ever had any problems (as far as I know) was after getting stung by a wasp once. Suddenly he was sensitive to all sorts of things that never caused him any problems.

Of course, if you believe House, MD, an excess amount of an allergen (in that case, copper) can cause the allergy to take hold. So maybe you just had a higher dosage than usual.

Yes, you can suddenly become allergic to things all of a sudden. It's a type of anaphalactic shock. Every time a foreign substance enters your body the antibodies (T cells) try to get rid of it asap, in the case of allergies the T cells don't shut down and begin to attack everything. The most violent allergic reactions can be fatal (wasp/bee stings). Occupational asthma is a big problem in research labs which involve contact with animals on a daily basis.

It is possible to become allergic to anthing, even if previosly you haven been. The body can become hypersensitive to various objects for no apparent reason, thus resulting in allergy.

Yes it is possible. It all depends. You change from day to day. If you were able to take Penicillin you can be allergic to Amoxicillin. They are both in the same drug family but slightly different. Just take something else instead.
