A federal grand jury in Minneapolis indicted 15 people on identity theft charges and five more for other identity-related counts, all stemming from last week's raid on the Swift & Co. pork processing plant in Worthington.
Fifteen individuals were each charged with two counts of using unlawfully obtained documents for employment and employment verification purposes in Minnesota, plus one count each of aggravated identity theft.
Four individuals were each charged with two counts of using unlawfully obtained documents for employment and employment verification in the state and federal district of Minnesota.

I know they do because i work for a company who hires landscapers and housemaids. I am constantly getting these social security cards where the Font is all off balance or its the wrong typeset. Im like, how retarded are these people who make these fake cards. They even sign their employment documents spelling their names wrong.

Geeze....they catch them....they've even busted rings lately who provide them....I'm sure a few probably just made up a number since some places never ask to see the card. There's been reports of home invasions here where all they want is your SS card and drivers license but they have been known to take money and your car as well. Illegals definately use stolen SS#'s.....there's not too many ways around it unless they use their anchor babies which is still stealing it.

There is some part of the SS# which indicates when it was issued or something like that. If more people were aware of that it might point more closely as to whether they are using a childs number or maybe a deceased elderly person.

The problem is the law (identity theft laws) are not written to cover the situation which is most common with illegals. The law is written to punsih someone who steals and uses your identity (ZOE SSN: 1234) to raid your bank account, run up your credit card, that sort of stuff.

Illegals generally 'make up' the SSN they use. But often will end up picking someone's actual SSN.
Somoeone arrested at SWIFT using your SSN :1234, isn't claiming to be ZOE, but is ARTURO or JOHNNY or something else.
The effect on you is a little different also, instead of clearing out your bank account-you end up with more 'income' reported to the government. So when you file your taxes, the IRS will think you are hiding income, and you might also be pushed up into a higher tax bracket.
Main effect is on people (retired or disabled) who are on a fixed income and qualify for benifits based on that. If they now show a higher income, or that they are working- their benefits are cancelled. To a 75 year old widow in a nursing home in Idaho, losing her SS benefits because the government thinks she is working in a meat packing plant in Texas...well the effect is pretty bad.
But again, the law is written more for the person with the bad intent of ripping you off, not the illegal who happened to pick your number.

That's not an excuse, and I am glad they are trying to prosecute them.

Some obtain "valid" social security numbers from people working at SSA. They don't belong to others.
Some people enter legally and begin to work legally but for one reason or another fall out of legal status. However they still have a social security number.
These are just two examples. My point is that it's unfair to look at a case like you've highlighted and assume that all illegals have stolen Id's. It's just not true. They need to be looked at on a case by case basis.

The problem with illegals is alot bigger than Pedro sneaking his wife and baby across a river, and claiming to be John Pedro Smith. "just kidding" liberals.I've known alot of illegals working in construction for 25 years. Most are very good people trying to do for their family just like you and your parents do. They suffer a great deal coming here especially when they don't go through the Mexican mofia. Don't laugh their stories are heart-breaking. Being packed into truck trailors for days with no food and water to being "owned" like slaves and forced into everything from drugs to prositution.Some ID's are given to them by your government officials for untraceble money. I could go on but time dosn't allow. Alot of money is being made off illegals and its not the illegals thats getting it. The border will be talked about but that for sure is as far as it will ever go.

The argument that they don't is so transparent...like calling us racist!

The argument is that Americans "do it to" is also flimsy as it is so much easier to track and prosecute an American than a slippery illegal.

the fact is no matter who stole the SSN mexican or american it is a crime. In both cases they stole it to use it to obtain other person's money or other information. If caught american will go to jail, than why mexican should stay free? It is a crime to cross the border, it is a crime to steal the documents, it is a crime to ruin innocent person's credit history just because they happened to have same SSN as you
