I know it is illegal in Germany since Hitler banned it in 1938. So is america moving in that direction? I pray to god we aren't.

Don't be an idiot. Haven't you noticed that almost all of the National Spelling Bee winners are homeschooled?

Homeschooling has never been illegal in the US.

Some states have stricter regulations than others. There is no difference in achievement in the states that have higher regulation.

So long as our country is based on freedom, homeschooling will never be illegal.

And to the person who said that teachers should be certified - private schools hire uncertified teachers all the time.

I've heard from many teachers-turned-homeschoolers that their credential actually hindered their ability to successfully homeschool, and it wasn't until they let go of so much of what they learned as a teacher that they were able to teach their children in a natural, family-based way.

But I don't mind people thinking that homeshcoolers should have a credential. Keeps us awake and constantly thinking about what it really means to learn and to teach others. That's a good thing.

No it's not illegal. Somestatws make it pretty hard for parents to homeschool their kids, but it's still legal. In Texas all homeschool are considered a private achool. We don't even need to submit anything to the state about it. So it's still very legal and very alive.

No its not illegal. I do think though that some public officials/gov't are trying to make it illegal.

And as for the response about the teachers having to have certificates, not entirely true and a piece of paper does not automatically qualify you to work with the countries future...

Nope and don't believe it will be, homeschooling is pretty well set up in the U.S. Students are able to take their state tests in churches etc.
