do have to go see a doctor, to settle your claim

If you're talking about a bodily injury claim, most insurance companies don't consider you to have sustained an injury if you had no medical treatment. Sounds like your injury was minor based on your question, so even if you go to the doctor don't expect that much from the insurance.

If you are hurt, then you always should get the medical treatment you need. This will help you have a better physical recover from your injuries. It also means that you have medical evidence that diagnosis your injuries which can make a huge difference in the settlement value of your claim. However, adjusters will often offer $500 or less to you immediately after the accident even if you haven't gotten any treatment to settle your claim. These quick settlements can really be a bad idea since many people think they only have a soft tissue injury, but after conservative treatment fails and a MRI is done, they find out that they have a herniated disc. Disc injuries often require pain management and surgery that can cost thousands of dollars. If you have already settled for a small amount, then you are really in a tough spot. yes and no. you may be able to work something out with the adjustor to take care of med bills should you incur them. On the other hand, that will be in exchange for a release which ends any future claim you may make.
So, be sure you're OK with settling for the specified amount before you sign the dotted line.

You should only see a doctor if necessary. If you truly aren't injured, there is no need.
