If the metal feels ok to you, use it. Being pagan is, at least to me, about going with what feels right.

Celts made some of the finest iron weapons and it was their trademark in craftsmanship. The romans liked the original Celtic sword so much they designed their Gladius around that weapon in 250 B.C.E. So in keeping with the Celtic flavor that modern paganry seems to have adopted; IRON is fine...
It is not the 'tool' you use (or even prefer) a simple plastic knife will work as well as a $2500 athame. A chopstick will work as staff or stang (although you might have to 'split the tip' of the chopstick to get a proper stang out of it). A thimble can work as a chalice and a rock for earth.
It is the focused thoughts that work and not the beautiful items, regardless of how may 3rd Degree Witches you have casting on your $3500 dagger.
Earth- Air / Fire-Water / Spirit..... those are the things that you should concentrate upon (notice my 'pairing').
Here's is how the Celts felt about 'things';
Everything in three's.....
The Sky above, the Ground below, and Water all around.
Metal is of the ground below, so 'grounding'. They did not think of any metal as 'bad', but they considered certain metals 'better'.
The Sun was their 'Fire', and the 'Hyperborean Winds' came from the North.

Iron is known to ward off evil and is a natural substance (Fe) and not a man-made substance so I don't see a problem with it. Of course I shutter when I think of someone trying to make a pentacle out of styrofoam or plastic. If I am remembering correctly though, I think faeries are afraid of iron as well so you might not want to use if for any faerie magick. I know iron nails were also placed at the four corners of a house to protect it from evil entering it.
One thing to always remember is, if it feels right to you then it is. Wicca isn't like one of those other religions where we are going to tell you that you are wrong. If it works for you, Great!
Bright Blessings )O(

I would maybe put it above my door or a place you would place a protective object. I agree with Endora. I would not make it a part of my altar. I'm sorry but I have to add a question to L.J. Just exactly who do you think you are to tell her her faith is wrong and the rest of us are a bad group that she should stay away from? If you did your research, which obviously you have not, you would know that every Christian holiday and tradition is rooted in paganism. We are very peaceful. Have you ever read about a pagan stoning their child outside of the city gates? We do not run around telling other people how to live we just would like to have the same right to a belief and opinion as you feel you do. Please try to have some respect for others around you. Many blessings!

How is the pentacle going to be used?
Iron is great for warding off unwanted energy, but it could hinder something you are trying to project depending on what you're doing with it.. the pentacle is a symbol of protection, so if you're using it in that manner, have at it.. If this is being made as a piece of jewelry, keep that in mind also.
Brightest blessings to you on your path.

Endora is the authority on this one, since she's the real pagan.
Still, as a Satanist, I feel that I might mention another "left hand path" called Faerie Magick. It's a branch of witchcraft based heavily on celtic tradition and they do incorperate some rather extreme elements into their workings.
They are also the only people I know of who carry Iron Pentacles.

Think about this...the cauldrons were made of cast iron so it can't be bad. Then again any true pagan will tell you nothing is ever good or bad - its all in the matter in which it is used. I have been wiccan for years and have an iron cauldron, which has always brought me luck.. Just make sure you bless the gift once you receive it...
Blessed Be!

I have one made out of copper, and apart from my neck occasionally going green when I wear it, I don't think it is too bad.
If iron is reputed to ward off evil, I think having a pentacle out of iron would be a good idea for that reason.

Iron is fine. Cleanse and Consecrate.
Some also say that iron also is not appreciated by the Fae and they avoid contact with it. It is really what you are comfortable with that is important. So, after you read some suggestions and do some research on your own, you will have a knowledge base to work from.
