i have three cats, one has fairly long hair & long tufts on his feet. the clumping kind of litter tends to clump to his feet, very gross! but the silica gel kind is SOOO expensive to use for 3 cats (especially since the other two are very short haired so could use the clumping kind) does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a Persian cat so I soooo feel your pain about the long tufts of fur on the feet! I refuse to cut hers again because the one time that I did, she acted so weird until it grew back. I won't put her through that again. So what I do now is I actually mix Tidy Cats Scoopable for multiple cats (because I have another cat as well) and just regular Tidy Cats (unclumping) I use about half and half that way the mess still clumps but it has greatly reduced the excess litter! I also got a framed catbox. Not the kind with the house over it, that didn't work one bit. The kind that have a top that snaps on that makes the box an additional 6 inches deep. I don't fill the box any deeper but her having to jump higher to get out knocks off most of what she has on her. We haven't had a problem since. Good luck!

I have a long hair cat with tuffs on his feet as well. I have the same problem, but no matter what litter I use, it still happens. So I got a litter catcher to put in front of the box. When he steps on it, not all, but the majority of the litter comes off. There are many different kinds of litter catchers, mats, plastic with grates, etc. Hope this helps!

You could try sand. If that doesn't work, you may have to just deal with the expensive kind.

Another option would be to trim your cat's fur tufts. He might look silly, but it's better then tracking around nasty litter. :)

I asked this same question before. Two people told me to kill my cats. Bastards. Anyways, this works: Mix two different kinds of clumping litter.. Dont know how it works, but it does! :) good luck.
