My yellow lab is two years old and has bad allergies. I was told to switch his food and everything that I have tried isn't working.. He scratches his eyes raw, licks his paws raw, and chews/nibbles on his body. He also licks his butt raw as well. I am thinking it might be Atopic Dermatitis but I am not sure. I was hoping another lab owner has gone through what I am going through right now and has advice on what to do, or what type of food he should be eating.. I would appreciate any advice out there about this problem. I am affaird that one day he is going to scratch his eye ball if i don't solve this problem soon.. Please Help

Science diet makes a line of special pet foods. There may be one of those that would work well. They've worked well for my pets. Lots of vets' offices carry them. Hope your lab gets better soon!

My vet suggested Lamb and Rice by Nature's Recipe. They also said 2 tablets of bendryl twice a day for my 50 lb mutt. And finally weekly baths they recommended Mycodex Pet Shampoo with Carbaryl. We just look for regular medicated pet shampoo.

Try Science Diet. Also, check at the vet's office and see if there is a food there he can eat. My oldest kitty has some medical issues that makes eating very hard for her, but we did find a food there she can eat without getting sick.

Good luck!

IAMS minichunks doesn't have wheat or barley in it. These are both common allergies in dogs and cats. It's expensive, but well worth it if your dog stays healthy. They sell very small bags so you can try it without a $40 investment. Good luck!
