His mom and I divorced when he was two and despite having joint custody and seeing him all the time, he doesn't want to stay over at least one night on the weekends I have him. He has his own room and his own bed but it never gets used.

Tell him that you understand why he doesn't want to stay the night but it would mean so much to you if he would. Ask him if you let him plan an evening (he decides everything you guys you do.. rent videos, pick dinner - no matter how unhealthy or silly it is - one night wont hurt him, make a fort, invite a friend over etc.) would he consider trying it for one night. If after that he decides not to stay the night again that you will respect that and wait until he is ready. He is is probably just scared of the unknown - a strange room he has never slept in etc. Just try to make him as comfortable as possible. Hope this helps. Good Luck and Take Care.

Does he have a friend who could also stay with him. Have your son bring a friend over one day and spend the day with you. Lare you could have a sleepover. It will seem a natural progression of things.Sleepovers are fun .Your ex could help bring up the topic with your son and he may feel more comfortable with the idea. Both you and your wife should work together to make your son a happy well adjusted boy.(I'm not saying you are not working together, it is just a general statement).I just think the sleepover will make him feel more relaxed and you will get the added bonus of meeting one of his friends.

maybe he is scared to stay all night, my advice is too see if he has a friend who might want to come over and stay with him, it might make him more comfortable, otherwise just give it time, Eventually he will stay. Or maybe something in his room is frightening--ask if there is something that could be changed to make him more comfortable and ok with the idea of spending the night.

There is nothing you can do except continue to offer. You can't force him to stay if he doesn't want to. You might try to make it more "inviting" by having a "just us guys" night rent "guy" movies (age appropirate of course) teach him some "guy" things (his mother's going to hate me and KILL YOU but...), teach him how to burp and fart (but make sure you tell him to only use those when "hanging" with his friends because they're not really appropriate for "mixed company" LOL. Let him stay up late, eat junk food etc. Sort of like a girl's slumber party but doing "guy" things.

You're the father, you need to be firm in this. You don't have to be mean but tell him it's your turn with him and that you will have lots of fun. Then do fun things at the house so he will feel better about being there. You do not have to beg him to stay you're the dad, you're going to have to be one. Don't let him get his way everytime...get him to try it once, make it enjoyable and he'll probably want to try it again.

Let's face it, he is Mommy's boy. You can't force him to stay at your house. You can maybe get some of his friend's or cousins to have a sleepover with him at your house. Try to make it a pleasant experience and don't make a big deal about it.

the first thing is to show him he is love not just by buying thing's for him but spending quality time with him try and plan your visits with a lot of entertainment just for you and him like going to a game room, out to pizza, to a movie, or games, and movies, at home. if you know a child around his age invite them alone for the trip. do not allow them to think he rule you do not lie to them/steal show good role model qualities and thing's should fall in to shape for you...GOD bless you

Invite him to come over and eat pizza, with pop, and desert. Watch good movies and play video games of his choice. And have a friend come along, if it helps.

Give him time.. Explain to him that you would really like to spend more time with him and you would really love it if he would stay the night with you... Maybe if he knew how you felt he would want to stay......?
