You make a good point but I hope you will not mind me telling you that you cannot use that as an excuse.
God promises to the one who seeks with all their heart that He will be found of them.
Like the Father of the prodigal He is looking a long way off for the return of His son.
You can't work your way to heaven. That is both absurd and an insult to God. If the priests, imams, rabbis, etc., are telling you that, you can safely ignore them for clearly they do not know God and are speaking from themselves. That's how sinful man thinks. No, you must seek God Himself. He made you. He gave you life and keeps you. He is infinitely greater than they are. And His ways are above theirs. Isn't it what you'd expect ?
It's kind of topical but, what can you give to the One Who has everything and Who has given everything ?
God only gives personal guarantees. You have to apply yourself.

This Christian believes that the guarantee is risky! The guarantee comes from Jesus the Christ, and it is either true or false. I would say that it is true, but everyone that is able is to make their own choice.
And yes, it is a get out of Hell free card, but you have to trust Him, and that is where the risk is dwelling. Do you put your trust in something else? Or do you put your trust in Him?
The risk is you could be wrong along with all the other Christians. There IS a chance that you could be right. But here is the promise as recorded in the texts that we have today:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
So there you have it. Is it true? If so, you gain eternal life. If false, then any number of things could be possible, and all Christians that are well taught are bearing a false tesimony about God and what God wants from us.
As I said, the choice is yours, you get to make the 'leap of faith' and you only for yourself. I would recommend you giving it a chance, at least you could know whether you are chosen or not.

So you want to follow the teachings for your own gratification? Do you really think that if there is a god, he/she/it will be so petty as to ask of us to not eat pork, beef, get circumcised, go to church? How all this is supposed to make any difference? These are just rituals to make you feel like you're doing something and you can get approval from a god. How arrogant of humans to even think that we worse the trouble!

Religions find it difficult to compromise. I was interested in the 'born again' rituals of a Vedic cult, that promise spiritual growth if you symbolise rebirth by putting your arm into a cow. But when some god botherers came to the door, they would not let me put so much as a finger into any part of their body, and their children were not for sale.

The guarantee is freely given and offered to all mankind without reservation, qualification or prejudice. The proof is that you can know God in person not just know about Him.
You cannot earn your way into heaven, therefore, you cannot earn your way into hell. The question of eternal life or eternal death, heaven or hell, has nothing to do with our "works" at all. The question that we each have to answer is do we choose to turn to God and accept the path that He made for all men to reach Him or do we choose to turn away from God and deny that He exists. The answer that we choose determines our destination for eternity.

Thats why it's called faith. I am not religious and hate people preaching to me, but i can see that it bring comfort to people, as others do from spirituality/mother nature.

Bummer, you attend a boring church...mine isn't. It's Spirit filled, Holy Bible teaching...and God gives the guarantee, not man.
Have you ever read the book of John? It's awesome!!!
Give it a read and if you don't have your own Bible, there are websites you can check different versions (translations).

Very good question. And of course we don't know, because no-one's ever died and come back to report on what it's like!
I think because of this, no-one can ever say with certainty that any religion is true in its claims.
