NO IT DOESNT HURT

Okay, here's the deal... it really depends on your tolerance for pain. I had it done when I turned 18, and I absolutely hate needles (I also have my lip done). It hurt a LOT more than my lip did... They usually use a 14 gauge needle... they'll clamp the skin on the top and pull it out... they'll have you take a deep breath and when you breath out they will push it through. It will probably sting and feel really warm around the area. The part that hurt me the most was when he put the ring in... I had my belly button for about a year, and I will tell ya this... belly button piercing are a pain in the butt to take care of... they get caught on every article of clothing you wear and pull... it hurts... also they take FOREVER to completely heal... but hey, it's your body! Good luck!

Edit: About 1 year later, I noticed the skin was tearing and I had a "third hole" between the other two... my body rejected the piercing and it eventually fell out and pulled my belly button in two... now it is scarred and nasty... just so you know

I had mines pierced about 5 years ago, and it didn't hurt that bad (but do keep in mind that I have a high tolerance for pain!) They used the needle (I can't remember exactly which gauge though) and he clamped my skin with something that resembled tongs. He put the needle on one side, and a cork on the other he told me to hold my breath and breathe out when he says so. When he told me to, I breathed out and he put it through. It was done in all of 30 seconds!
Clean it daily (there's a solution that you can get from Eckerd or CVS) in a blue container. And use sea salt and warm water to soak it. The healing process was very long for me and it hurt when people would accidentally bump into me or something. I couldn't sleep right at night because I like to sleep on my stomach, but it was painful.
I ended up having to take it out because it developed a keloid. I had to go to my dermatologist and get 3 cortisone shots (that sucked and hurt more than the piercing!) So if I had a choice to do it again, I definitely wouldn't. The keloid went away, but my navel is scarred.

It did not hurt when I had mine done but when I went with a girlfriend she had some pain. And yes, they use a needle.
Please be sure if you really want to do this. The real trouble with belly button piercings is not the initial pain but the possible infection. They are common and not very pleasant. You will have to take excellent care for your piercing for at least 6 months.

to say i won't hurt would be lying but how much hurt is up to your level of tolerance some say ther eie much pain and some say to the converse remember if you are truly wishing for this procedure
"it is just another hole" as you heard earlier the new orifice must be kept clean or you will know pain from a staph infection or other such unfriendlies and then you might get to see many needles some in places you keep covered within your pants

needle...um....yessss...what else would they use...a piece of bamboo? the process is they pick a spot and center it with a dot and then they put clamps over it to pinch the skin...then they clean everything and whatnot..then they push the needle through your skin...and there you go...the initial "piercing" procces takes only a few seconds...to me..it didn't hurt at all..but whatever...right now its hardcore infected and all screwed up from when i play soccer...so..the aftercare is prob. your biggest worry...but if you don't care for "pain" then...i suppose you should take someone

Feels like a big pinch, they use a hollow needle and it only takes a few min. The key is when you are done and while it is healing to wear loose clothing that does not rub your belly botton.

If anything it feels like a really quick pinch. then you feel one moe when the piercer slides the barbell in and you might not even feel that. I thought it was gonna hurt worse then it did i had a death grip on my moms hand lol. It's worth it, truth be told its one of the least painful pierceings i've ever had. It's worth it so go for it!

HAPPY PIERCING!!!

it hurt a little, and yes, it's done with a needle. It was weird afterwards, I was afraid to sit up, like I was going to split it open or something. I love it, got it done 4 years ago, keep it very clean.
good luck!

Yes, I heard that it is very painful my sister did it 5 years ago and she could barely stand up straight because of the pain I never tried but I heard that it is painful for a little while though, especailly when your shirt or anything snag to it.
