Colon cancer does not always present symptoms. Colon cancer symptoms sometimes do not appear until the disease has progressed into an advanced stage.

Blood in Stool is the most commonly experienced colon cancer symptom. As a tumor grows larger, the passage of feces can cause the tumor to bleed. it is common to see blood if the tumor is near the anus, but it is much more common for the blood to be hidden inside the stools.

An unexpected weight loss accompanied by other symptoms can indicate colon cancer. The pain and discomfort caused by a tumor can lead to loss of appetite, which in turn results in weight loss

There is no definative symptom to raise the clinical suspicion of colorectal cancer, but there are a multitude of factors. Firstly, unless there is a strong family history of CR cancer, FAP, UC, crohns, other inflammatory bowel diseases, or previous colonic polyps, and you are under 60, then it increasingly likely to be less sinister.

Common symptoms include many of the above. Fresh red blood is a symptom, but is merely indicating that there is something not right in the rectum, recto-sigmoid or sigmoid area(also excess mucus is a symptom). Darker, almost black blood in the stools is a sign of bleeding higher up in the GI tract from pylorus through to transverse colon. In more cases than none, the cause will be benign.

Tenesmus, the feeling of incomplete emptying upon defecation is another indicator, as is digital palpation by the GP or doctor. Change in bowel habit, weight loss, etc.....combine these with raised tumour markers and the pattern emerges.

If you are concerned then visit your GP (UK) or family doctor (US) and they can investigate and order a modality of colonic imaging if they feel there is clinical need, be it flexi sig, colonoscopy, BaE....

Take care.

dont guess, symptoms can be lots of things. if you are specifcally worried go to the doctor - if it is cancer it is best to get it sorted quick, but the doc may be able to put your mind at rest and rule cancer out. In answer to your question, one symptom would be passing blood but this could also be from something else, like an ulcer or a small tear in the tissue.

The colon has very few nerve endings which is one of the reasons people are often unaware of serious problems until quite late. One indicator of potential problems (although it can be something or nothing) is consistently very dark or black poo when you haven't been eating anything which would make it so (i.e. liquorice, iron supplements etc). If you are concerned however the best thing to do is see your GP. You can also now have health screening tests at lots of places and they can usually test for bowel problems.

Pain and Bleeding not always but you would also feel ill if you have had this for a fair while. I take it you might have something that makes you feel anxious so get round the surgery PRONTO and if you have blood in the stool then tell your GP and he will put your mind at rest if its not what you think Good Luck

they say bloody stools.

I had a scare like this and it was piles.

For your own peace of mind, go to the doctor while waiting for an appointment and after eat plenty of fibre rich foods.......

porridge
dried fruit (raisins,apricots, figs)
jacket potatoes
weetabix and other fibre rich wholegrain cereals
wholemeal bread
linseeds.. (trust me these are brilliant!)
prunes
** Drink plenty of water as this softens the stool and lessens the aggrevation of the piles (if that, hopefully is what you have)

Do this, for the rest of your life and you should hopefully be regular... I know I am, 30 mins after waking up in the morning I need to 'go'

Take care

What kind of symptoms are you having? A good website to look for symptoms is mayoclinic.com. Good luck.

Symptons are numerous and non-specific, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, change in bowel habits, narrow stools, diarrhea or constipation, red or dark blood in stool, weight loss, adominal pain, cramps or bloating.

Don't do this. You'll just scare yourself.

Some clever sod will say that if you have blood coming out of your ****, then you've got cancer. But you might just have piles.

SEE A DOCTOR
