I am an engineering student and I have been doing quite well....but I understand that thermo is pretty tough.

1. Pay attention to your units. Make sure that when you plug numbers into you equations, that it makes sense. For instance, if you're trying to determine the energy in something, your units should be for energy (and not length or temperature)

2. Pay attention to the assumptions that are used for your equations - in thermo, you have certain equations that are only applicable in certain situations (such as changing volume vs. constant volume). I never paid enough attention, and hence didn't do as well in the class as I could have.

3. Pick the teacher that is most highly recommended. My professor was terrible and didn't inspire me to spend any time on the material. He didn't explain things well. Try to go the extra mile to understand *why* things work, and you'll be good to go :-)

I found it to be pretty easy - actually. I had a really outstanding instructor (a guy from northern Italy named "Moretti").

You will get really good at looking up things in tables and off of graphs. When you buy your book, you should notice a hygrometric chart in it, as well as 'steam tables' (among other things). How you put these tools to work is actually very, very interesting.
