Is the bright light flashing? like lightning? If so it could be a retinal detachment & should be checked by an optometrist or ophthalmolgist immeadiately. In the UK OPTOMETRISTS are qualified to look for eye disease, where as dispensing OPTICIANS are not. We do not have "store front optometrists" who are unable to check eyes thoroughly.

The more common type of glaucoma does not give any symptoms at all. That is the problem with it. You wouldn't know if you had it. Routine eye examinations including tonometry (eg "air puff test") and visual field testing will identify it. A rare type of glaucoma causes intense pain & people can start vomiting because they are in so much pain. They are rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. This type does not cause bright lights either.

It's a sign that you need to see an ophthamogist (eye doctor) ASAP.

This could be a symptom of any of a number of very serious problems, problems that could cost you your eyesight in that eye and possibly in both eyes.

This should be considered by an eye doctor to be an emergency situation. Most eye doctors will squeeze you in for an appt under such a condition, but if you can't get that appt, go directly to your closest ER. No more delays and nor arguments against it. Your vision is at stake.

Go to an ophthalmologist and get checked. You might be a Glaucoma suspect like me. It's nothing to worry about. Even younger people can get this. Your doctor will keep you in check and give you eye drops if necessary. Good luck.

Like everyone else says - see a doctor.
However, some things you might want to discuss: Migraines ... seizure auras, floaters, glaucoma.

My money is on migraines ...

I have heard that it can be a sign of an oncoming migraine. Also I have heard that it can be the only symptom of a migraine.

Go see a neurologist at once... It may be something as minor as a nerve "twitch", or a stroke.
