I need some help on how to deal with this situation. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I brought my boyfriend with me to my family function. Everyone loved him, and I'm glad because we're kinda on "serious" terms. The only thing that bothered me about him was that sometimes he was a real "joke killer." I'm planning on bringing him along with me to my family function (where he'll meet the other side of my family) for Christmas, and I was just wondering what I needed to do with this situation...??? He's a real people person and he gets along with everyone he meets. I kinda want to say something to him about his "jokes" but I dont know if that's a real good idea, because I know that it would hurt his feelings... what can I do...?? Please Help!!
Maybe someone could give me some tips on how to back him up whenever he says something and gets nothing but crickets....

You know what..? You guys are right! I think that it embarrasses ME more and he's just having a good time. I think I'll leave him alone and just let him be himself. He is kinda cute when he's over there laughing at his own jokes... it makes me smile right now just thinking about it. Thanks everyone!!! I feel much much better!

baby girl, this will make you a very talented girl. you have to be quick witted. once he makes something that's not that funny, you need to step in right away and make it @ least bit of humorous. you guys will now be working as a team. so, break open your humor books. and go to comedy club more often. you really can't make someone who's not funny be funny.

So... your boyfriend can't tell a joke and this qualifies as a "situation"? Come on. If that's the "only thing that bothered you about him" you should thank your lucky stars. There's nothing to do about it, not everyone can tell a joke.

A bad joke man huh? There are two options........cringe and bear it, or say, kindly, honey I love you, and you are a great guy. But sometimes the jokes you make don't do what you want them to. Is it because your nervous? If so, you don't have to be. My family loves you, without all the jokes. Then, kiss him, and ahem, give him some lovin to ease the criticism.

I think you should let him be himself. I know it makes you uncomfortable but he will get the picture eventually. Maybe you can look at it a different way and say ... I love him cause he tells horrible jokes that nobody laughs at and he doesn't have a clue.

Well, don't try to change him, but when the crickets are playing, say "Sorry, honey. Hell of a crowd, better luck next time?"
Remember you love him, everybody loves him, etc...
Your lucky if the only thing bothering you is the joke thing, cause if their tasteless, they can be overlooked. You can't overlook being ugly just to be ugly...

maybe he'll get the hint when no one is laughing but him. it's probably cause he's a little nervous, you could try telling him they're not real jokey people, or that he dosent have to make jokes for them to like him, he may hold the jokes off then

you could laugh at his jokes or quickly change the subject, try to keep the conversation on other things that aren't so easy for him to "joke" about. Or you could help him find some funnier jokes. Don't worry about it too much - he couldn't have that many more jokes left in him.

It sounds like you are making a bigger deal of it than he is. I think that's because it embarrasses YOU. Leave him alone, he's having fun and being himself...nice. It's better than having an *sshole to put up with. If YOU are embarrassed by it....shame on you.

That's cute....look if you like this guy I'm sure your family will too. Don't worry about. You can gently tell him that he isn't the best joke teller....and kid him about it. I'm sure your family will appreciate his personality no matter what...bad jokes or not....
Relax enjoy your visit!!

Cheers!!

tell him that you enjoy his jokes but he has to not be like that in front of your family. OR if you don't appriciate his sense of humor, then maybe he isn'e the right guy for you.
