First, I think you need to sit down with your friend and have a serious talk. No laughing, joking, anything. It needs to be a serious talk so you both know what each other wants. Tell her that you know she is not over him and that yes you do like him but you don't feel like its worth ruining your friendship. Tell her that you are confused about what she really wants because the last you want to do is hurt her (feel free to add tears and puppy dog looks and make sure you both listen with your hearts to each other) . If you both decide you should go back out with him but you still feel uncomfortable because of your friends feelings, don't go out with him and then sit your friend down for another talk and tell her that. Remember, no boy is worth your friendship. Alot of friends find that out after they have ruined it.
Good Luck

First, you sound pretty young so I take it that you must be between 13 and 15 right? I think that maybe if a little time has passed between him and your friend that might be ok if she is telling you it is. However be sure because no boy should come between you and a girl friend. The boy might be gone in a few weeks but your friends that are girls could be forever friends if you are honest with each other. Maybe see if there is someone else she is interested in and help her out there. Once you know she might have another interest and won't feel bad or care that might work out better as far as some hurt feelings might go.

Well, since he's shorter than you...you need to call the WHOLE thing off...I mean...oh my goodness!

Just trust your feelings and go out and enjoy the time with him. If things 'click" then you can deepen the relationship. Certainly having your friend's encouragement is a good start.
