You'd have to start at a local track. That means building a car virtually from scratch, hauling it around on an old trailer, and losing a lot more than you win.
Then you get more comfortable with the speed and the feel of picking your way through a field, and eventually you start winning more.
After you master one level, you bump up a level.
You repeat this until you get noticed - or get hooked in with the right people - and maybe get asked to join a regional team, such as the American Speed Association (ASA). A LOT of NASCAR drivers come from there.

You can actually get started without TOO much money. In some of the lower classes at small tracks, you can field a car for maybe $500 to $1,000. The real costs come in maintaining the car; tires, engine parts, fuel, and that's not to mention crashes.

Go to www.chasinracin.com and check their track locator to find some near you. Go check out some local races, go down into the pits after the races and talk to some of the drivers. That's how 99% of the NASCAR guys started, and it's not unheard-of for a lady to make it too, though - right or wrong - it can be a little harder for a woman.

If you want it badly enough, you can make it happen. Good luck.

Well to answer your question honestly it goes like this: A Professional is someone who gets paid for the services provided in this case driving a race car.

At many local tracks sanctioned by NASCAR in the top division the drivers get paid based on their finishing order. You are now a Professional NASCAR driver. If you want to make living at it, that's a different question. You start at your local track and make a name for yourself, hopefully get a ride in the touring division like Busch North and the West Series, or even make a big enough name for yourself and get picked up in someones driver development program. Make a name for yourself there, then hopefully get a ride in the Busch or Craftsman Truck series. Both of these you can make decent living in, but if you want the big bucks, be sure to make yourself a big name in the under divisions and get signed buy a cup team.

Not bad the Jimmy Johnson made over $6,000,000 at the awards banquette alone, That does not account for Salary, Bonuses, and Sponsorship deals

Start racing competitively at the lower levels. You can buy a cheap car and turn it into a racing car, and you can race other people in a league or in tournaments and stuff. There are race tracks all over the country -- what do you think they use those tracks for when they're not holding big events?

Go fast, turn left, don't screw up, repeat for 250 to 600 miles depending on the track (road courses will be discussed later).
