Why not? I dont attend, and for me, it all because I cant find one that actually teaches anything GOOD about God. Every church I have attended have preachers who seem more about bringing people under control by using fear, instead of actually Loving and worshipping God, and learning together. I know we should, as Christians, but it seems like in these times, its nearly impossible to find a church that functions the way God said they should.
So, if you dont, why dont you?
(For the hard cores who want to tell me how wrong I am, go for it, Ive heard it all before. For Atheist who want to smart off, take a swing, you will with or without me asking you to.)

I agree with you, many chruches i have been to are crazy. The pastor standing up telling people if they have enough money to go to the movies they have too much money and need to give it to the church, but he is standing up there in his 1500.00 alligator shoes. I know not all churches are like that, but I tend to like to worship on my own.
When I do go to church, it is usually at my parents church, My step-father is the pastor (he does not get paid well I might add). It is a small church and the congregation isnt rich, but they are wonderful and nice people. I wished I lived closer to them, I would go there more often.

Going to church is about learning the bible and what it teaches, and how to live your life. If you feel that you can get that for you and your family from somewhere else, then that is for you to decide. What matters is that you spend the time with God learning his word. I also think that spending time with people who share your faith can help make it stronger, especially for the young people out there, so even if you don't attend a weekly service, maybe you should consider the youth groups or sunday schools for your children...?
(We don't attend church regularly, but we do like our church it's just a matter of transportation until we get our car back on the road)

So you are looking for a church that pleases you? That is not good. The word of God is what it is- and there are many churches out there who do not the teach the truth, but sugar coat it so people will want to come and feel good about themselves. That is NOT what God wants in the church. The gospel needs to be heard and the scriptures need to be studied- not opinions from pastors or feel good sermons, but the truth just as it is, in the Bible. Our church reads the bible book by book and verse by verse- which is what I love. I am being fed the actual word of God- and studying each verse.
God is loving- and merciful and Just and Righteous and we need to always stick to the truth of His word and not skip over something you think will offend someone...For as Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways acknoweldge Him and He will make your paths straight"
You cannot pick and choose what scriptures you want to hear- You need ALL of God. And God warns those who do add or take away from His word. Worship too is very important. I love worship...
Do you have a Calvary Chapel where you are? They study the bible book by book and verse by verse....praying that the Holy Spirit would teach us, as we seek HIS wisdom and teaching and not our own.

I don't go because of what you said, how do we know they function the way they should...how do we know if God even wants us to go to church? I also don't belong to any organized religion, so don't have a need to go anyways, faith in God is enough for me. I don't need a preacher telling me how to get closer to God when I'm close enough already.

Have you ever thought that God may have a purpose for you to be there as a witness for Him? Maybe you will be the one who will shine through whatever darkness that is in the church you are talking about, and lead someone to Christ that is lost and confussed. Think about it.

From what you have said so far i gather that you are a christian , or some time in the past was one . my advice to you would be to let God guide you in your decision process as to which church you should select to attend , pastors have a job to do and as a follower you have one also , a good pastor would preach the word of God as given and if it is a word of rebuke or reprove he must do it in a way where it (the word of God ) accomplishes what it is ordained to do , but still comes across in a loving manner . we must also be cognoscente of the fact that the doctrine of Jesus was all about love but it was also about the fact of repentance and many times it was a bitter pill for many to swallow

Doesn't the current situation of the church (any church) tell you something about the nature of religion?
You can consider this "smarting off" if you want, but it is a serious consideration.
