He is only 6 lbs., and using the whole dose of Frontline always seems like too much. If I only use half will it be as effective? Will the other half keep after the package is opened? This would really save a lot of money. Thanks

the frontline will not keep once it is opened, however, my mini dachshund is on the feline size. It is a bit less expensive, and not too much of a dose (same formula as the canine)

It depends on what weight range the Frontline you have is. If you have the smallest size for the dogs I would use a whole dose, because it is a specialized for the weights specified and shouldnt be a problem, but if you are really concerned I would ask your vet. Also ask about any specials for frontline through your vet. Also if your dog is indoors and you only want flea protection Advantage products have a smaller weight ranges (1-10 lbs) but they DO NOT protect against ticks. The makers of Advatage make Advantix for fleas and ticks but do not get it if your dog comes in contact with any cats. Advantix is very dangerous, even deadly, to cats and just coming into indirect contact with it can cause the cat problems. So I just wanted to let you know what options are available to you. Good luck

Frontline comes packaged for specific weights in dogs. There are, I believe, 4 different formulas. For a Chihuahua, you will want to get the formula for puppies and dogs under 22 pounds. You will need to use the entire dose as directed on the package in order for it to be effective.

All the Frontline is packaged with the same amount of liquid in the little vials. The dosage is stronger for the larger dogs, weaker for the tiny ones. Using 1/2 a dose which is aimed at larger-sized dogs can cause irritation or illness in your dog.

I would check with a vet.. but I know I took my cat to the vet... she is 6 lbs.. the vet gave me the frontline ... (well you know I bought the frontline ) anyway.. my point is the vet gives the proper dosage recommended for the animal... so if the frontline was purchased from the vet put the whole dose on the animal... I understand the money aspect, the pets benefits from the dose...

Frontline is very safe even for a 6 lb chihuahua, we use it all the time in our hospital. You will need to put the whole dose for it to be effective. As long as your dog is the proper age indicated on the package them you should be fine.

I would first check with your vet to see if it was alright. I wouldn't just put it on there. I might hurt your dog. You wouln't want that, would you?
