This is a bit long, but I hope you are able to use this.
First, take the time to get better. Work on your schedule and work in about 12 hours for sleep and rest. I know that sounds a bit much, but I also know that people have to work. If you are blessed and do not have to worry about work then take as much time as you need, LOL.
Second, drink warm NOT hot liquids, tea decaf, orange juice, cranberry juice, etc. AVOID like the plague any milks and sodas that have sugar, carbon "bubbles", salt. Keep your self hydrated, many people loose so much fluids that dehydration keeps them sick. Try to drink the teas, juices and warm water about 15 times a day, this might seem like a lot but if you are using mugs then it is like your 7-9 glasses of water/soda/juice you might drink any other day.
Then look at the clothes that you are wearing, make sure you have one relaxed but slightly snug shirt on with a very warm sweater, to ensure that your back and chest is not exposed to cold air or drafts. Make sure that your body is covered comfortably. When you bathe, make sure you dress in the same room that holds the heat you bathed in. If you step out any draft with defeat the purpose of getting better.
Make sure to apply a vapor rub to your chest and back, it serves duel purposed, helps clear your nose and chest and give a protective barrier to your skin. If your nose is clogged eat something very spicy, work to the level you can handle. My sweet heart made something for me, it was a fresh veggie soup with habenero chili pepper. If you can try to get a pot of boiling water and ad a few drops of eucalyptus oil and stick your face over the steam with a towel over your head, breath this in once a day to clear up any sore throats, noses, and open and clear up your sinus and chest a bit. This just helps you breath easy.
If you like to use medicine, actually read the labels, too many people over drug themselves and then they kill the antibodies that are used to fight the cold. If you use medicines, take as directed, however, before your next dosing wait for about 30 mins. to an hour before taking, giving your body a chance to fight the cold. I suggest limiting yourself to 3 per day, on in the morning before breakfast, one after lunch and then one night time medicine before you sleep.
When you eat, try to include garlic, fresh or slightly cooked, the properties of this lovely root aids in thwarting your cold.
Here are some "tea" drinks I use with I have a cold. just alternate so you will not get tired of drinking once kind.
Hot Lemon
1 lemon
1/2 teaspoon honey
1 cup boiling water
Squeeze the juice from a fresh lemon into a cup of boiled water, add honey for taste. Sip while warm.
Hot Orange & Ginger
1 orange
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon ginger (helps to soothe the throat)
1 cup boiling water
Squeeze the juice from a fresh orange into a cup of boiled water, add ginger & honey for taste. Sip while warm.
If you cant afford cough medicine, try this effective and cheap alternative.
Onion cough syrup
Cook 4-5 large onions in a pot with 3/4 cup honey. Simmer for approx 1 1/2 hours-2 hours, strain. Take as often as needed for relief. Use warm.
I am sorry that there is a lot, however I know these work, and I hope you will take the tips and use them. I am praying that you will get better. God Bless!

If your congestion is not dark or bloody and you don't have a fever, then do this:
Get a cough drop (Hall's eucaliptus or lemon honey are great) then get a glass of HOT boiling water and drop the cough drop in it. Cover your whole face over the glass with a big towel and breathe in the vapors. When the vapors subside and the water is warm and not hot, then pick it up and drink it. The cough drop has melted inot the watre and makes a soothing hot drink and the vapors have cleared your stuffy nose and lossened your chest congestion making your coughs actually work better to remove the congestion out of your lungs.
I LOVE THIS TIP. I do it all the time. This will be the best thing you've learned at Yahoo! answers. I promise.
Hope you feel better. If you start running a fever or your congestion becomes bloody or dark see a doctor for antibiotics, but it doesn't sound like you have that.

Orange juice and soup, to start off with. Get you an expectorant cough syrup, and make sure you drink plenty of liquids, so it'll bring that stuff up. Also an antihistamine, like sudafed will help with your ears, and tylenol pm at night (only at night)...that'll help with the stuffy nose, draining nose, and plugged ears. Be aggressive with this. If you start running fever, then you may need to go to a doctor. Hope you feel better soon, best of luck to ya.

you should go to the Dr. B4 the chest infect turns into pneumonia. Clogged ears comes from the sinuses. another reason to go to the Dr. you sound like you need antibiotics. take Tylenol cold & flu; zinc throat lozenges. congestion: clear: allergies; yellow: infection: green: BAD infection.
